The Mystery Has Been Solved

imageThis week the mystery of why my writing slowed down has been solved (dun dah da)

☀️ ☀️ ☀️

For years, my friends said, “Merri doesn’t sleep.”

It was kind of true. I’d wake up at three in the morning. Since I was awake, I’d write.

A couple of months ago, I wrote about my concerns about slowing down. My mind was in a constant fog. Every day, it was like I had to trudge through mental mud to find words. I didn’t like my stories. I would have sworn my characters didn’t like me. And, I was always tired.

Well, I learned what was causing it. And, oh my!

Around the time I sent the note, I started watching Supernatural with my friends. We'd watch and send messages.

image After episode five, my wake-up in the middle of the night routine changed. That one piano note they used in the startle scare scene reverberated through my mind, jolting me to sit up and assess the situation. Thankfully, every time there were no monsters under the bed, in the closet, or hiding in the kitchen.

I messaged my friends. I cannot watch the show.

I had a good sleep for a couple of nights.

Then it returned—the loud noise. My heart would beat in my chest. I’d rise out of bed. This time I thought perhaps it was my menopause probiotics.

I cut them out of my diet.

Then it was two good nights’ sleep. And the heart pounding in my chest and fear of missing something important hit.

I removed the glass of wine from my dinner menu.

It happened again, so I started exercising.

Finally, I bought a YouTube premium subscription and played one of those remove negativity from your mind tracks.

At three a.m. I heard it.

The loud noise that scared me.

But it didn’t scare me because it sounded different.

It was a loud snort, followed by a rumbling exhalation. Then, my husband rolled over and resumed his peaceful slumber.

So, yes. I have been waking up for years at three in the morning because my husband’s one-note snore 😴 startled me.

I still listen 🎧 to YouTube soothing sounds music and am pleased to share that I’ve had a full week of unbroken, refreshing sleep.

Honestly, I'm glad the solution was so simple.

Now that I'm not as cranky about my stories, I'll be able to have the next update to the small town stories summer series on the site by this Thursday.

imageFor a limited time, Piece of Cake is free.

When Lacey reached for a piece of cake, she accidentally picked up the hand of Mr. Golden Eyes, Colton Hughes. He captured her heart and disappeared into the crowd of people, leaving her to think it was a momentary crush. The next time they met, she ended up on her back under a shower of fruit. And thus began her introduction to life in small-town Montana.

From one misunderstanding to the next, she wonders if perhaps life would be easier if she moved to Arizona with her parents. Who cares that the state is so hot people can fry an egg on the ground.

Colton sets out to prove that not only does she fit in perfectly in the small community, but Lacey also belongs by his side.

In this quick read, Lacey will learn that love and laughter are only one step behind the obstacles, and if she will let him, Colton is more than happy to catch her every time.
