i like my friends. why do i feel left out?

i’ve been thinking about that weird feeling after hanging out with people you like.

have you ever spent a night with friends you actually like but somehow gone home feeling left out?


maybe everyone was talking about a trip you weren’t on, and every time someone started explaining the backstory, someone else interrupted with another funny thing that happened on the trip. you're now very aware of how much fun everyone had without you, thanks.


and then it feels weird to even be upset, because… they invited you! nobody was mean! you’d probably like to go to the next thing!


but being invited and feeling included can be pretty different experiences.


this week’s blog is about how friend groups get into these habits, what we can do to make it easier for everyone to join in, and what to say if you’re the one who keeps feeling left out.


because you deserve friends who are happy to see you, want to hear what’s going on in your life, and make it easy to feel like you belong.
