Getting back on the wagon

Good morning, !

I’m going to tell you a little story about me. And I’m sharing this because I’m 99.9% sure you can relate.

It starts (notice I didn't say this is a one time thing) when Woody is off work. He works 7 days a week most weeks and then has summers off with the exception of setting up work for the next season. We have a commercial diving biz and Woody swims around in drinking water tanks to inspect them, clean them and do minor repairs while they are full of drinking water. Describe that to your guidance counselor!

So....I typically eat more, drink more and sometimes exercise less though, thank goodness, working out has been pretty consistent (with the exception of actual vacations!) I have fabulous clients who keep me on track for that as well as a very active tennis community!

And because I am busy having fun, Woody and I have "happy hours" on too many occasions. Therefore, we eat cheese and drink wine. (Side note: we do mostly have healthy appetizers. Feel free to ask me what we make. When friends are over there is often cheese and crackers. ARRGHH!) Belonging to four wine clubs isn't exactly conducive to drinking less BTW! I am happy to report that we just cancelled one. Go us!

Seriously, we get into this mode and we have to catch ourselves. We have to have those uncomfortable talks with ourselves...

I know that if I don’t take ONE STEP … make ONE GOOD DECISION … to snap myself out of this spiral, I head in the exact opposite direction of my goals. Before I know it, I've gained 5 pounds and my energy is way below normal.

What do do? In this instance, I changed my first glass of wine to kombucha. We make a SMALL (or none) happy hour tray. Both Woody and I are over-achievers which means we pretty much eat everything that is in front of us. If that's you, making a very small, healthy plate works!

With one healthy action under your belt, it is a lot easier to take the next one and get back into your healthy routine.

What does it take besides getting that one action? Make the DECISION to get back to healthy habits! Let's face it guys, life is about decisions. And committing to health is one that you will thank yourself for in the long run. Committing to health means a great quality of life, hopefully staying off prescription drugs. Who doesn't want to be sky diving or running a marathon when they are 80 (if that's what you want to do). Most of us just want to travel effortlessly and play with grandkids. Make the DECISION to do just that!

What is ONE ACTION you can take TODAY to help you get back on track (or up your game)?

Need an idea? Choose something from one of the 4 pillars of health I talked about a few weeks ago:

  • Exercise
  • Healthy Diet
  • Sleep
  • Rest/Relaxation/Mindset

Don’t let one bad moment, day, or week derail all your plans. Your goals are too important. You’ve got this!
