Detox DONE! (and the lessons I learned)

Hey !!
Some of you may not know that I, and some of YOU, did a 10 day detox. It was my first! And I will now say that it is...partially done. Why? Because a detox is wonderful for us AND it really isn't complete if we don't utilize some of the principals learned doing the detox. We don't want to go back to eating too much, drinking too much, making food choices that includes alot of processed foods. What we do want to do is add what we learned and implement it! I don't know about you, but I feel GREAT and I'm down 6 pounds (I must admit that I binged a bit the weekend before).
Remember, use the 80/20 rule. 80% of the time, choose fresh veggies, fruits, lean meats (in other words FRESH food). 20% of the time (at the most) indulge a little. Have a small piece of cake, or pizza. Just be careful to not over-indulge because those cravings will come back if you eat bread, sugar, not so good for you fats. VERY moderate on these items. Focus on veggies and portions for optimal health.
And it's not just about nutrition and drinking enough water. It's about moving. It's about quality of sleep. It's about learning how to manage stress cuz we all have it! It's about taking time for you to recharge! All of this was in our detox handbook. WOW! Lot's of other discussions we could have. There may be zoom classes in our future as there are so many topics when it comes to overall health.
So, here is my experience with the detox. The first 2 days up until dinner on the 3rd day, was a bit tough. I was never so happy to eat hot soup in my life! And the detox veggie soup is delicious! I had a slight headache (probably from not having coffee), some bloating and a little fatigue: that's about it. Some of our participants experienced some true cleaning if you know what I mean (this is poop talk), more fatigue and bloating. After that, I pretty much felt GREAT! I love that this program involves fish and chicken starting on Day 4. The juices and recipes are tasty too.
What I learned: First of all, I eat multiple mini meals a day. That's not new for me and this keeps your metabolism up, your furnace revved. Secondly, Woody and I mostly eat veggies and protein for dinner and try to stay away from bread and pasta except on an occasional basis. We also don't fry food or purchase pre-done meals. Therefore, we eat pretty well, but.. I need to eat more raw veggies and will add a daily juice (which I was against up until now to be honest as I like eating my food rather than drinking). While the fiber content is low, you get LOTS of nutrients. I will also add a fermented food or drink (sauerkraut, kombucha - which I also pooh poohed in the past) at least once a week and preferably twice. Lastly, and this is for all of us, your taste can change! If you give yourself a chance to detox, veggies and fruits taste extra sweet, extra good and you won't crave the not so good for you sugary stuff! It's absolutely true! Did you like your first alcoholic drink you ever drank? I'm guessing the answer is no and that you just liked the "effect". Well, eating well is key to overall health and I guarantee you'll love the "effect" it has on your body.
Cheers to good health!
