Celebrating Sarge

Hi !
Most of you probably know that we are HUGE dog lovers. Through the years, Woody and I have adopted some senior dogs. It is never easy to say goodbye and it brings us a lot of sadness even though we know we gave our fur babies a great quality of life. And they bring us so much joy!
On Monday, September 26, we said goodbye to a gentle giant that touched our hearts more than most. It’s been heart breaking even though it was his time. Sarge brought us so much joy. His name was perfect for him. He was around 115 pounds of alfa male whose bark was much bigger than his bite (he had no bite….probably cuz he never needed to). We absolutely knew that he would protect us even though he was feeble at the end. We got such a kick out of this gentle giant. When we walked by our neighbors who have two big German Shepherds, they would put their tails between their legs and run if Sarge simply got close to their fence: no bark needed! Like a typical Sargeant, he was ready with his verbal gruffness. He would bark his fool head off while we got his dinner ready, telling us to hurry up. However, he knew his place and barked from the living room. Everyone loved Sarge! We have people over frequently and we are constantly told how great our dogs are. Sarge was sweet and gentle even with all of his "bigness" (one of my nicknames for him). He was always ready to give kisses and love on us too. Treats were taken gently from our hands and plates were put on the floor to be shared between Sarge and KI who had great respect for one another. Such a gentle giant who we miss terribly.
In celebration of Sarge, I will be doing a complimentary yoga class on Sunday, October 9 at 9 am. Donations received for this class will go to German Shepherd Rescue. With small vetrinary clinics being bought up by the big guys, they are having to pay more for vet bills. They do an amazing job with the fur babies. Sarge would have died if they didn't fix a terrible ear infection he had when he was saved by the rescue. When he came to us, he had his ear canal removed and his ear sewn shut. One of the volunteers drove an hour each way to give him the only antibiotic that had to be administered via a saline bag as it was so potent. It was also the hail mary drug that would save him. We are so thankful it did as he was an amazing dog! Some of you may remember being at Woody's 50th birthday party with this handsome fellow in a cone. I think we had him for a week at that time. Yet he wandered thru the crowd like the alfa he was: gentle and confident. The stories could go on of course.
If you can join us on Sunday for yoga class, reply to this email and I will send you my zoom room number. I will also get you the link for the rescue should you desire to make a donation. It's tax deductible. And it's to honor our sweet Sarge. We are so grateful to have had the opportunity to have Sarge in our lives.
