Three novels in a month: update

Jul 13, 2024 12:20 pm

Hello Darlings!

I know you've been waiting to hear how my goal to write three vampire novels in a month is going, and I am ready with my update!

First off, is this an ambitious goal?

Yes.

Will I hit it?

I hope so!

I've always had this idea that you should set really high goals for yourself. That way, even if you fail (and let's get real - I fail a lot!), you fail closer to where you want to be.

Example: If I'd said, "I want to write a vampire novel this month," I might have been able to write one. Since I said, "I want to write three vampire novels," I'm going to be much closer to three completed books even if I fail.

Luckily for you, dear readers, I have no plans to fail.

So here's what's up:

Book 1 is halfway done.

Book 2 is drafted and started.

Book 3 is drafted, started, and has already made me cry twice.

I can't wait for you to read these!

I haven't chosen names for these books yet, which is really unlike me. When I start on a new project, I generally name the books and get covers right away before I even start writing. In my world, I'm doing things a little bit backward this time, but that's okay!

Also, if you're going to be at Writers on the River next week, let me know! I'd love to see you! I'll have blind dates with a book at my table AND I will be bringing some surprise omnibus editions of Dragon Isle!

Can't wait to see you!!!!

One of the best things about going to book events like this is the chance to get to chat. Remember what I always say: authors are more scared of you than you are of them! So even if you're new to book events and feeling introverted or awkward, remember that your favorite authors are book girlies at heart, so they're probably just as anxious!

I like to start conversations at book events by asking people what they like to read or what genre they've been reading recently. Don't be afraid to prep a couple of questions in advance to help guide you during the bookish festivities!

Love,

Sophie

P.S. I have a request! If you love my stories and want to see them in your local bookstores and libraries, would you ask your librarian or bookstore manager to start stocking them? I'd love to make my books as accessible as possible and one of the best ways to make that happen is to show that there's a demand! <3

What should you read this week?

One king. One childhood friend. One quest.

Andy

Being a king isn't all it's cracked up to be, especially when I find out I have to take a bride. It's some sort of secret clause nobody bothered to tell me about, which is fine because I'm not doing it. I'll find a way around getting married if it's the last thing I do.

Lane

He has to do it. He has to take a bride. I'll set everything up. I'll arrange showings of the best women from every planet known to Malum. I'll create a customized menu of everything he could possibly want because if he doesn't find someone, if he doesn't get married, then he's going to lose the crown.

And I'm going to lose everything.

BETRAYED is the second book in ALIENS OF MALUM. It can be enjoyed as a standalone story; however, you may want to read DECEIVED prior to this in order to understand the ruling system of Malum. This is an alien brides story with romance, steam, and an incredible adventure.

Anything can happen on Dragon Isle...

One feisty dragon + one desperate human = one fake marriage.

Jax needs a wife in a bad way. He stands to inherit an incredible fortune, but there's one caveat: he has to get married, like, yesterday. He can't touch the money until he's claimed a mate. He's got to stay married for an entire year, and then if they go their separate ways, it's no big deal. One year of marriage? He could do that. Only, all of the ladies on Dragon Isle are girls he grew up with. Nobody is going to take a chance on this. Nobody would buy it.

Then one drunken stranger changes everything...

Melissa has absolutely nothing going for her. When her husband caught her by surprise last year and filed for divorce, she was stuck with half of his debt and...nothing. She had nothing. They lost the house, the cars, and their savings accounts because apparently, Kyle had a secret gambling problem she knew nothing about. When a handsome stranger approaches her in a random bar with a strange offer, she's intrigued enough to say yes.

One year being married to a rich guy?

One year without sex or love or romance attached?

One year as long as she doesn't ask too many questions?

Melissa can't sign up fast enough.

Soon she discovers that Dragon Isle isn't a normal island, though. It's full of secrets, and she finds herself determined to figure out what Jax is hiding from her.

***DRAGONS ARE FOREVER is the first book in RETURN TO DRAGON ISLE. This is a spinoff of the DRAGON ISLE series by Sophie Stern. Reading the Dragon Isle books is highly encouraged, although not required in order to enjoy this story. Dragon Isle begins with STEPDRAGON, which is a quick read introducing the island, and is followed by MY LORD AND DRAGON.***
