Day 18

"When you realize how powerful expectations are, you put as much effort into keeping them low as you do into improving your circumstances."

This one resonated today, so I'm sharing it with you.

According to how I understood it, it means that we usually put a lot of effort into having high expectations - we expect perfection for almost everything we care about and, at the same time, almost no effort into improving the circumstances that would eventually meet those expectations.

In regard to our English context, we can see it this way -

We could try and put some effort into keeping the expectation of speaking perfectly every time and as soon as we open our mouths a bit lower than usual, and actually work on the circumstances that will improve it.

And those circumstances, among other things, would be:

  • having a daily practice of speaking English
  • being focused and curios when reading or listening

Are your expectations higher than the effort you're putting into improving your circumstances?

Do you expect your English to be better and at the same not put the effort into changing your daily routine or practice?

Better English does not equal putting more effort into having even higher expectations from yourself.

Better English equals putting effort into actual improvement - practice speaking, doing language tasks, reading with awareness and attention, and listening for pronunciation.

I za kraj :) - pogledaj ovaj video sa predlogom plana vežbanja za jednu nedelju i spremi se da ga testiraš.

Less expectations and more actual practice :).
