Alien romance freebies + a sneak peek at my next book!

Hi !
I’m finally back at work after a month of misery due to a Virus That Shall Not Be Named. I need to cut myself some slack on the nagging feeling that I’m already behind on my 2023 goals. Instead, I’m embracing the possibilities of the universe and trying not to plan too far ahead.
What’s next on my writing schedule? First, The Ballast’s Bride, follow-up to The Mountain’s Mate. It’s a bodyguard romance about a gentle alien giant who accompanies a human woman on her way to an arranged marriage. Problem? He’s been desperately in love with her for years.
(Keep reading to the end for a sneak-peek excerpt…and an exciting new release and some freebies, too!)
Once my little giant romance is done, I’ll be tackling Seduced by Starlight, the fourth book in the Warrior Kings of Alioth series. This book has been living rent-free in my imagination for almost two years now. I have so many notes on my phone—half-imagined scenes, snippets of dialogue, roughly sketched themes and settings, twisty political intrigues, lists of spicy stuff to include—that it feels like it’s already written.
(It’s not. But it will be shortly!)
Here’s a little preview of The Ballast’s Bride to whet your appetite:
“I can’t say goodbye to you.”
She hung her head. “I know. I know. But we have no choice.”
“Is this marriage what you want, truly?” When she didn’t answer, he used one finger to gently lever her chin up so she was forced to look him in the eye. “Because if you don’t, if you are only agreeing out of necessity, know that I will take you away from here. I’ll take you wherever you wish. Somewhere safe, somewhere you can live the life you want. You have a choice.”
Somehow that was even more terrifying than being stuck a sea voyage with a bunch of humans. What life did she want, if there were no other constraints? She had never dared dream of it. “You’d lose your job,” she protested, deferring the question.
“I don’t care,” he said stubbornly. “My job is and always has been to keep you safe, and I am tormented by the smell of your fear.”
Her heart swelled. Dear, sweet giant. She wouldn’t let him sacrifice so much. After all, what did she need but a home and maybe a little garden? Once she married the Nightborn king, she would have those things. And with a bit of luck, she’d find friendship with her new husband and maybe even love and affection as well. It was not impossible that she could win him over, even if he found humans repugnant. They had that in common. Plus, she had her silver teeth and winged gowns and even her blood to tempt him, if it came to that. She swallowed.
“I will be safe once I marry,” she assured Hinri, stroking her hands over his broad chest, feeling the outline of its rocky plates through the fabric of his guard uniform. “I fear only the voyage, not the destination.”
“Then I will accompany you.”
“You don’t have to—”
“Mimma. Don’t argue with me,” he snapped. “I will see you to safety.”
“How will you fit in my cabin?” she wondered aloud as he turned back toward the ship, warming as she thought of the journey with him at her side. Hinri would make it all bearable. He knew her so well that he could always cajole her out of a bad mood or calm her worries. And his presence alone would keep the human men in line.
A rough, reluctant laugh scraped out of him. “I won’t fit. But we’ll make it work, somehow.”
New from Other Authors
Ami Wright’s brilliant Forbidden Mates of the Ardun Royal Guard series has a new addition. Jaro is a rare single-dad alien romance! I read it and loved it.
All his pain, undone by the scent of her heat.
He’s been in love before and had his heart broken. So he dedicates himself to the Shahra’s royal guards, giving up on ever finding his true mate.
But the human female makes him doubt his vow. She’s brave, loyal, caring. Everything he’d want his mate to be.
Working together on an undercover mission means faking a mate claim with a bite. She’s put him in the friend zone and he has already taken a vow. He can’t claim her.
So when the lines between real and fake start to blur how does he deal with his forbidden desire for her?
He longs to taste every inch of her.
Rut her.
Make her his!
If she’s not his true mate, her heat won’t trigger his rut. So why is her scent all he can think about?
