It’s time for an ART REVEAL!

The fantasy planet where the Salt Planet Giants series is set has occupied my imagination for literally years. Not surprisingly, one of the first things I wanted to draw for the special edition collection was a MAP.

(When a book starts with a map, I get soooo excited for what’s to come. I hope you get that feeling when you open up the collection!)

I’d never drawn a map before, so I watched a bunch of map-making tutorials on YouTube and bought some commercial digital brushes for all the little trees and buildings and landforms. There was even a set with tiny sea monsters that made me regret not putting more sea monsters in the stories.

Map-making was…harder than I thought it would be. I couldn’t get all the little stamps work together to create a map that looked like my world.

So I threw them all out the window and just did my own thing! Here is the result (you’ll find a full-page version in the special edition!):

You'll find the city where The Mountain’s Mate begins, the human colony where parts of The Ballast’s Bride take place, the Salten Sea they cross to get there, and the farmland and mountains that set the scene in The Ruin’s Revenge.

If you look verrrrryyyy closely, you’ll might see the locations of the connected novellas, too… the waterfall in The Giant’s Gift and the cave where Aster and Damir spend the night in Bound by the Alien King.

I’ll have more art reveals from the Salt Planet Giants special collection for you in the coming weeks (there are 14 new illustrations!)…but I’ll leave you with this sweet moment from the epilogue of The Mountain's Mate. If you've been around for a while, you might recognize it as a redraw of an older, watercolor version of the same scene.
