ON TO THE INTERVIEW...

Krista Luna is the author of over a dozen sci-fi and monster romances. Her adventurous couples always get into steamy shenanigans and fight their way back out again. I love her stories for their WTF moments, rad heroines, and nonstop fun. Whenever I pick up one of her books, I know I’m going to have a good time and fall in love with the hero!

Her latest book is Bound to the Orc Warlord, about a woman who gets sucked through a portal into a fantasy world where she suddenly has magic powers and a hot (and grumpy) orc husband!

Here’s my conversation with Krista about her writing career, characters, and the right type of underwear to wear when meeting your orc husband for the first time!

You’ve written a lot of books (by my count, thirteen novels, four novellas, and a heckton of bonus short stories!). Do you have a favorite out of all the ones you’ve written? What’s special about that book?

What an evil question! [laughs] Seriously, though, I love all my books. So my answer is a moving target—it’s always the book I just finished. Which for now means Bound to the Orc Warlord. It’s freshest in my mind, the characters the most vibrant, and I’m having such a blast creating this new, magical world!

I adore grumpy sunshine romance, and making a big grump like Dravarr fall hard when he doesn’t want to is so much fun. And Ashley’s so bright and joyful. I had a blast imagining becoming a witch with cool powers like hers. And their path to finding each other is a little rocky, a little fun, and a lot sexy!

How did you get into writing romance? And more specifically, what made you choose to write nonhuman heroes?

I’ve been a scifi and fantasy geek since I was a little kid. All of my first loves were TV shows, movies, and books featuring adventures in fantastical worlds featuring humans and nonhumans.

I also loved the romantic stories. Alongside all the lightsaber duels and battling spaceships, Han kissing Leia for the first time is one of the most memorable moments from Star Wars for me.

And part of the fun of coming up with new worlds is also exploring the nonhuman people who call them home. Cultural differences, lifestyle differences, it’s all really interesting to explore.

Also, I love creating special peens and extra-spicy sex. If you’re going to create new types of lovers, why not give them an upgrade?

You’re well known for writing alien heroes, but your new series is orcs! What drew you to monsters this time around?

I’ve always written monsters, my previous ones simply happened to be alien. Whether it’s the Varool with cock pockets, locking spines, and a second heart to fill the mating erection, or the Zaarn with fangs, horns, and vibrating tails, I’ve always been interested in males who aren’t human.

My Moon Blade orcs feel like a natural extension of this. And yes, I’ve created yet another new type of monster with a special peen and some form of aphrodisiac fluid. You’re welcome. [grins]

If you were fancasting Bound to the Orc Warlord, who would you cast?

Oh! What a great question.

For grumpy Dravarr, Henry Cavill all growly like he is in Witcher, but with long black hair and green skin. And the amazingly pierced peen, too—can’t forget that.

For sunshiny Ashley, Shannon Purser, our fave redhead from Stranger Things, all grown up.

Your reviews always rave about the animal sidekicks in your books. Who can we expect to meet this time?

Hurtle, everyone’s favorite grumpy unicorn is back… and he brought friends!

We’ll also see a lot more of Midnight, the half-pooka unicorn who’s wonderfully sassy. She’s one of Dravarr’s friends and plays a big role in this book.

Although not animals, the pizza pixies are also back and just as funny as ever.

Ashley makes a new friend, too. You’re going to meet Drake, a young dragon who can talk and adorably doesn’t understand all the sexual tension going on with our couple!

What’s your favorite scene from Bound to the Orc Warlord and why is it the one with the baby unicorns?

[laughs] Sorry to disappoint, but the scene that came to me early and remains with me is Ashley stuck in the tree, flashing Dravarr her hot-pink panties. It’s probably my cutest “meet cute” to date, and I love that it’s sexy and embarrassing and funny all at once.

It also started Dravarr’s obsession with her panties, which was a lot of fun. Let’s just say if an orc glare could dissolve fabric, those panties would have died a death in that very first scene. Instead, they live on to torment and tempt him.
