Springtime, Novellas and False Starts

Hi

Hello from a sunny breezy Sydney, where Spring has sprung and the city is purple with Jacaranda flowers – it’s my favourite time of year.

The new job is going well – the people are friendly, the work is interesting, and I’m settling in nicely. What a relief! I’m also thoroughly enjoying the walk to and from work.

Writing wise, I’ve completed my final edits for my novella, The Last Goodbye, which is now with my wonderful editor to work his magic. Hopefully there won’t be too many changes to be made, but it’s so good to have his eagle eye looking for inconsistencies, mistakes, and things that made sense to me while I was writing them but might not make sense to a reader.

Unfortunately, the sequel to Out of the Ashes has rather stalled. I did write the first couple of chapters but I really struggled, and I realised I need more time for research and planning. Sometimes, I can just wing it if the characters cooperate, but this time they didn’t come through for me, so it’s a little bit back to the drawing board.

I have, however, finally completed the audio recording of Out of the Ashes, (Hooray!) and have begun the long process of editing, although I’m getting quicker with practice.

What I’m Reading - Shrines of Gaiety by Kate Atkinson

Kate Atkinson’s new novel is every bit as good as I’ve come to expect from this talented author. Set around the seedy nightclub world of 1920’s London, it is a fabulous novel that captures the uncertainty and illusion of the times.

What I’m watching - Rams

Australian comedy at its best! Sam Neill and Michael Caton in a dry and quirky film about two estranged brothers who have to come to together to save the last of their herd of sheep. Wonderful.

Here are the links to my books. Have you read them all?

Historical Fiction

Another Time and Place

The Officer's Affair

Out of the Ashes

The King James Men

Historical Fiction with a touch of fantasy

Shakespeare's Witch

The Witch's Secret

The Shadow Witch

Till next time - happy reading!

Kind regards

Samantha
