Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Hi

Merry Christmas! The mince pies are in the oven, I’ve finished my day job for the year and the family is all together for the first time in a long while. I’ve also submitted the last of this semester’s assignments for the health management course – all is well with the world!

Time for a break, except even when I’m not actually writing I find it hard not to think about writing – so I’ve got some good fiction lined up as a distraction. Top of the list is The Women of Troy by Pat Barker which is the follow up to Silence of the Girls, which I loved. Also in the pile are The Girl on the Platform by Ellie Midwood, the Glass Woman by Caroline Lea, and House of Salt and Sorrows by Erin A. Craig. I’m not sure how many I’ll get through before editing and research for new books takes back over, but I plan to enjoy it while it lasts! I’ve also got some nice long walks planned (if it ever stops raining ...) a couple of movies, and lots and lots of family time.

I hope you’re all spending the holidays doing what you love: for me, the turn of the year is a good time to take stock of what’s important, to be grateful for the good things in my life, and set my gaze towards a hopeful future.

Have a wonderful holiday and see you in the New Year!

Book of the Month

A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness

This has been sitting on my shelf for at least a couple of years and I finally got round to reading it a few weeks ago. I have to say I didn’t expect it to be so good! I was completely hooked by the story and the characters. Brimming with historical research, it’s also a fun and satisfying read, although I don’t know if I’ll continue with the series. Recommended if you’re willing to believe in witches, vampires and daemons for a while.

Till next month,

Happy Reading!
