Hi

Hello again from a stunning winter afternoon in Sydney. And welcome to any new subscribers wherever you are in the world.

Finally, finally, Out of the Ashes now available in audio. Yay! It’s been a long and educational process, but lots of fun, and it was wonderful to be able to work with my nephew in England who is trained as a sound engineer. He usually works with musicians, so an audio book was a learning curve for him too! But we got there.

Here are the links to all the places it’s available. It will be available in more stores over the next few weeks (including Audible and Spotify), but the process just takes a bit longer with some stores than others.

Sticking with audio recording for a moment, you might remember me telling you last month that I’d begun recording The Last Goodbye. I did record it, but I realised I need to some work on my voice and accents, so I’ve been studying with an amazing voice coach called Amy Walker who has really helped me to use my voice more effectively. Not only accents, but minimising extraneous mouth noises, which can (mostly) be removed in the editing process, but which it is much better to avoid in the first place! I’m really enjoying doing this voice work, as it helps fulfil a lifelong desire to be an actor.

I also have a question for those of you who have read The Officer’s Affair. If you haven’t read it yet, look away – Spoiler Alert. As you might be aware, there is an optional alternative ending to this novel, which provides a happier conclusion. I know a lot of readers have preferred this version, and I’m wondering if I should just make it the actual ending. I’m a reader who enjoys sad books, but all my other novels end on a more positive note, and I’d would very much value your thoughts as to whether The Officer’s Affair should end more positively too. So, to change or not to change? Just drop me a line with a yes or a no.

What I’m reading – The Beekeeper’s Daughter by Santa Montefiore

I listened to this as an audio book, and I really enjoyed it. A bittersweet tale of love lost and rediscovered, that spans continents and decades.

What I’m watching – Britannia

We’ve just finished watching the third season of this historical fantasy series set in Roman Britain. Druids, Celts, magic and conquest. A lot of fun, and sadly, the final series.

Here are the links to my books. Have you read them all?

Till next time - happy reading!

Samantha
