Will the AI monopoly prevail?

Hello Fellow Sailers,

This week, after a break to visit some conferences and get some new input, I want to write about something important.

And that's AI. AI is maybe not the liberator that was promised by so many.

But what is a techno fix? According to Wikipedia:

Some references define technological fix as an "attempt to repair the harm of a technology by modification of the system", that might involve modification of the machine and/or modification of the procedures for operating and maintaining it.

But what if the techno fix enforces itself by providing new problems or even worsening the problems it attempted to fix?

And well, that's true for AI. AI is intentionally biased, as no statistic can match the individual. Yet by creating a discriminative technology, the bias in new training data and thus new AI technology is enforced. It's a vicious cycle.

There are only a few winners. But who are the losers of the AI economy?

Well, that's the people who are needed to create AI.

Take Clickworkers as an example. According to Forbes, a slave trader easily becomes a self-made billionaire.

But not only rich slave traders exploit poor people in 3rd world countries through click work. Also, academics capitalize on the modern slavery hype.

German journalists frame the working conditions for click workers in Germany as undesirable, too.

And of course, everyone needs some really overpriced hardware and software from the very companies that exploited them in the first place to pay for their next pizza and heart pills. Isn't that liberating?

And what about you? When did you provide a free click work yourself? Maybe you clicked on an Ad, or liked a post? Well, then you might have just been providing work, to some slave master, too.

I know it's a tough perspective, but it is worth thinking about it. Wake up!

With kind regards,

Julian
