Le’hasa!
Welcome back to Argren – a kick-ass epic fantasy series about witches and rebels who take on an evil oligarchy – a story for our times.
What we’re writing
While we all anxiously await the publication of Spirit Light volume 2 (scheduled for July 16th, 2026), Ross has written Run, Kessa, Run, a short story set the Spirit Song Saga timeline.
Kessa, a new member of the rebel group Oss'stera, finds herself out of her depth when a mission to meet with the resistance in Brennan goes horribly wrong. But she has a job to do, even if she has to risk her life to do it.
This is part one of a two-part story. We’ll send the next link in December. Feel free to share with your nerdy reading friends.
Have you already read the first two books in the Rebels Rising series (Argren Blue and Desulti) and would like to read Oss’stera, the next book in the series? Let us know who your favorite character is and we can hook you up with a copy through NetGalley. Contact Deb for more info.
What we’re reading
If you are looking for a new way to find your next favorite book and want to expand beyond the pay-to-play Amazon/Goodreads algorithm? Check out Shepherd, “Goodreads but smarter”. Full disclosure, we are founding members of this website because we want to support community-building spaces created by authors and readers, for authors and readers.
Our Firkins and Fantasy book club is reading Uprooted by Naomi Novik. This is a standalone classic fairytale with a kick-butt heroine twist. If you are in Milwaukee November 2nd, come by the Black Husky at noon even if you haven’t read the book.

Looking for gift ideas for the readers in your life? Our publisher Black Rose Writing is offering all paperbacks for 20% off on their website. Use code SEASON20
Finally, we are trying short story swaps with some other authors. Check out “A Grudge is Born”, a short story introducing Andrew Claydon’s Chronicles of the Dawnblade. “Just because you’re chosen, doesn’t mean you want to be.”
Why we love Milwaukee
In a word, fall. Nothing better than fall in Milwaukee.
