Welcome back to Argren – a kick-ass epic fantasy series about witches and rebels who take on an evil oligarchy – a story for our times. And welcome to Descartes' Demon readers, new fans of Quizzical Spirit enterprises.

What we're reading - free books and book club

This month's Firkins and Fantasy book club pick - The Witches of Karres, a classic fantasy from the 1960s. The cover alone sends me back to perusing the second hand book stores for 50 cent "pocket books" that I could squeeze into my back pocket if my jeans were loose enough. If you are in the Milwaukee area, we will be meeting Sunday June 28th from noon to one at Black Husky Brewing.

One ongoing promotion we are part of is "Free Books Friday". Great resource for Kindle Unlimited readers looking for their next binge.

What we’re writing

Lots happening in our writing process right now. Spirit Light Volume Two, the fourth book in the Spirit Song Main Series will be published July 16th. Send us a pic of you reading one of our other books in the series, and you may just score a signed copy.

After a lot of testing, we have landed on a new cover for Descartes' Demon. Leaning into the satire vibe, rather than the cyber-thriller elements, which we think will be a better fit for our audience. We have some books with the old cover, so send us a pic of you reading one of our books and we'll send you a signed copy.

Ross is finishing up the final draft for the March 2027 publication of Murtair, the follow up to Desulti and Oss'stera in the Spirit Song: Rebels Rising series. Find out what happens to Tove and Danu!

The final manuscript for Old Magic, a dystopian fantasy set in a future Argren world, will soon be complete. We haven't forgotten those of you who want an advanced copy.

And finally (whew!) Ross and Deb are sketching out a plot for a straight cyber-punk novel, set in Argren, but further into the future. Stay tuned!

Why we love Milwaukee (or in this case, Wisconsin)

We have been part of a CSA (consumer supported agriculture) for the past 12 years and each year it gets better. Between our garden and the weekly basket, we rarely have to buy any produce, and we know exactly how our fruits and vegetables are grown. This year, I took it a step further and drove up to Plymouth for the Old Plank Farm plant sale, and am now the proud grower of some very robust tomato plants. Happy to support a local farmer, not a giant agri-business.
