Le’hasa!
Welcome back to Argren – a kick-ass epic fantasy series about witches and rebels who take on an evil oligarchy – a story for our times.
What we’re writing
Expect a few extra emails this month as we launch our first urban fantasy/techno-thriller/satire/humorous literary fiction, Descartes’ Demon on February 7th. Check out the trailer Ross made – he’s getting pretty good at this. We’ve already received three 5-star reviews from Readers’ Favorite.
We also received our cover for Spirit Light Volume 2 from our publisher. First person to guess who the two women are walking up the steps gets a sticker!
Ross is deep into Spirit Song, the next (and maybe final?) book in the Spirit Song Saga. He has also completed the first draft of Old Magic, a dystopian fantasy set in the future of Argren. Deb is almost done with “Seeds”, a short story set in the world of Argren. Bug her about it and she’ll get it done by the March newsletter.
For your friends who only read library books, our books are now available for libraries to order through apps like OverDrive and Hoopla. If your library doesn’t have it yet, you can request it—your request helps us reach more readers!
What we’re reading
Our writer friend Wayne Turmel, who has an engaging werewolf detective series (really!), has just released The Deserter – a Tale of the Foreign Legion. Military/historical fiction, very gritty, old-school desert saga. He kindly interviewed us for his blog.
This is on my 2026 TBR pile. A novella is a great way to explore a new series. Berikatanyan Dawn is a prequel novella that can be enjoyed on its own, and also sets the scene for John's SF/Fantasy trilogy: The Berikatanyan Chronicles.
Just in time for Valentines’ day - Are you looking for a dark fantasy romance? This one looks intriguing.
If you’re looking your next romantasy read, check this out.
Finally, if you are looking for other newsletters, check out a whole bunch of YA fantasy that fights back.
Why we love Milwaukee (most of the time)
Well in the depths of winter, we escape Milwaukee for a week to Key West. We always find something new. This year, Deb stumbled upon a 15 person artist/commie polycule. That's what they called themselves. And did some stealth marketing at the Hemingway social club.
