Over the weekend I decided, because I haven't done one for a while now, to run a free book promotion for my recently republished series starter Meat Market.

I wasn't really sure what to expect, having never tested promotional services geared towards this books particular genre (it lies within the realms of literary fiction and woman's fiction...apparently...who knew?)

Needless to say, I though if I got 500 downloads that would be amazing. This is the first book in the series and book 2, Escorting Eric, isn't due to be published for a couple of months.

On Saturday, if you recall, I emailed announcing the book would be on offer for the rest of the weekend. I didn't expect much out my readers because, to be honest, Meat Market is a fan favourite and has already been read by many...no one needs to download a book they've already read.

Despite me not expecting much out of this promo due to it being for the series starter many have read before, it was downloaded just over 2000 times which blew me away! It also reached number 4 in the US humour (although they spell it humor) charts and I have already received 30-40 five star ratings which I can only attribute to new readers enjoying the book and reading it hyper-quickly.

This for me, is promising. It means a book I wrote nearly twenty years ago still resonates with readers. Yes, I've tidied it up a bit, removed and added bits which I thought either did or didn't belong, but the core of the story, a zero to hero tale about love, loss and muddling your way through is a universal tale which people are enjoying.
