Short Story Publication
Mar 24, 2025 4:16 pm
Greetings,
If you are receiving this email it is because you have either voluntarily signed up to be on my mailing list, or I have put you on it as you have previously expressed interest in my writing in one way or another. I want to remind you that you will never receive an email from me unless I am directly promoting a new publication, which at this rate, is not going to happen very often.
However! I do have one to share with you now.
My short story "Outside of Denver, On the Train," has been published in the Chicago Quarterly Review, a well-acclaimed literary magazine operating out of the heart of the Midwest. Unfortunately for now, the story is published in "print only" so it is unavailable to read online. If CQR or myself eventually make it available online, I will send another email to alert you of this breaking news. Until then, it can be purchased as part of the Spring 2025 issue on the CQR website:

A little about the story:
The story is based on a real trip I took across the United States by train in 2022 with my brother, Nick. The whole story (only 1000 words) takes place over a matter of about an hour, waking up on the train in the early morning as we approached the Rocky Mountains, having left the golden red plains of Nebraska the evening before and traveling in darkness through the night. It was my first time seeing the front range of the mountains, and the winter had just come. My excitement and awe as we climbed the steep mountain tracks was hard to contain, and something I thought about long after the trip was over, which eventually led me to write the story.
I want to thank you for your support and consideration in purchasing the story. If you are not so inclined to purchase the magazine (full of dozens of other writers' stories) head over to my linktree to read one other story I have for free on the home page, as well as a link to purchase the novel that I self-published last year. For those unfamiliar with the book, I'll leave a blurb below.
Thanks again and best to you all,
Tyler

Blurb for"Newbird":
In Colorado, 1836, the U.S. Army assists a band of fur trappers with finding the culprits behind a series of mysterious raids that they have sustained over the last year. Private William Bell meets a charismatic young mountain man who assists the military in their search for the perpetrators. During a routine patrol the two young men become apart of a sudden discovery that could forever change the understanding of colonial history in the New World.
An alternate history of the United States' conquest of the West unravels in this lyrical story told between two interweaving timelines. A pair of dramatic narratives, split between 1599 and 1836, fatally come to a head in the foothills of the Rockies. "Newbird" is an exciting and curious journey spliced richly into the dense and complex history of colonization in the New World.
"For readers who appreciate explorations of the American West as well as instances of vivid storytelling, Newbird will be worth their time. Tyler David Rigdon has packaged this four-century-long work of historical fiction with a near-encyclopedic chronicle of those centuries, and the result is impressive."-Regina Oliver (BookSirens)
