I had a couple of quick announcements that I wanted to share with you.
FIRST: Talking Data and Diversity in Tech with Senior Data Director Gean Martinez
I've known Gean Martinez for a very long time. I consider him family to me, so it was an absolute pleasure and honor to have him as a guest on the podcast. Gean is a Senior Director of Data and Technology with Sliverline CRM here in NYC, so he knows a thing or two about data and tech.
In this conversation, Gean shares his journey, as an immigrant to the US, and the challenges of helping work the family business while juggling school and the expectations placed upon young adults here in the US. He dives into how he found his way into the tech world as a young software developer. He shares with us some of the beliefs and attitudes he learned at home that governed how he operated in the corporate space.
Like many of us, Gean reached a place in his life where his priorities shifted, less on "let me put my head down and be a good worker" to "I have to create a life that works for me." As a result, he reached a place where he sought a new opportunity that landed him in his current role as a Senior Data Director.
In reflecting on his journey, Gean shares some practical tips for business owners about how to find data already available to uncover more opportunities. He also shares some sage words for young adults, particularly young adult immigrants and first-generation Americans, that may not be aware of the opportunities that exist for them. He also shares a calling to stakeholders to be more committed to diversity, not just in show, but in actual action.
