What Would You Tell Your Younger Self About YOU?!?! 🤔

I had a catch-up phone call with a friend this past weekend.

He works in higher education for a big name college system here in NYC.

During our convo, it came up that this year makes it 20 years since our senior year.

That made my jaw drop!

I thought that was only from movies in the 80's!

I didn't think that being 20 years removed from high school would come this quickly!

Anyways, while we laughed a bit about that, the thought came up,

"If I only knew then what I know now."

I paused to think about that and shared,

"I don't think it would've mattered."

He asked why I thought it wouldn't matter, knowing then what we know now as adults.

"We would still be stuck and afraid by the same thoughts and beliefs that held us back then."

Imagine, with me, for a moment.

Whatever you may know and believe now,

if you had that knowledge 20 years ago,

would your life be different?

Probably not.

And it's because, if you're like me, you were raised with the belief that making mistakes was bad, and would only lead to bad things.

Make mistakes on a test, and you're considered not intelligent.

Make a mistake by asking someone out that isn't into you, and now everyone is laughing at you.

Make the mistake of not wearing clothes that aren't trendy or cool, and you become an outcast.

Many of us lived with this fear 20 years ago, and it's been operating in full effect in our lives since then.

That's why so many people are not content with their lives, but they don't see a way out.

You've been hustling at a job that drains you, but you have it in the back of your mind that if you try to make a change, you're making a mistake.

You've tried to make money with a side hustle before that didn't pan out, and you're afraid to try again because you don't want people to say you were scammed.

Here's the thing:

We don't grow unless we're willing to put ourselves out there and experience change.

I enjoy helping many of my clients file bankruptcy and get a financial fresh start,

but how long will that fresh start last when nothing else in their lives has changed?

Same job. Same income. Same expenses. Same stuff.

And many people avoid change because, as we shared earlier,

there's this fear of what others will think lurking in our thoughts.

Well, if you're happy with everything in your life,

congrats! This isn't for you.

But If you're someone who's living paycheck to paycheck.

If you're someone who found was making more money under the COVID unemployment benefits than from their job.

If you're someone who's been putting so many hours, days, weeks, even years into a job, and feel like you have nothing to show for it.

If you're someone that would love to make an extra $1,000 to $2,000 a month.

It's time to stop letting the fear of what others may say hold you back.
