Hello!
How are we just over halfway through the month already? Time flies when you have your head down writing, ha!
I'm happy to announce that I finished writing book 15 for my Dragon Riders of Osnen series. I typically try to use a title that hints at what the story is about. This one was a challenge for a while. For most of my books, I knew the title either before I started writing it or shortly after starting.
With this one, I finished writing the book and still had no clue what the title would be. I brainstormed for about 30 minutes and came up with several, but they just weren't exactly what I wanted. I took a short break, and then it came to me.
It will be titled Tomb of Oaths!
It'll make sense once you read the book, because it deals with both a tomb and an oath (obviously!).
Anyway, the Kickstarter for my comic is live! It's hit the funding I set, but to be honest, the campaign needs to do about $2,000 more to cover all of the production costs.
This campaign is moving the slowest of all the ones I've done. I'm guessing either not many of my readers are interested in comics, or since people have read the first book, they're not interested in seeing the story in comic form. Or it could be any number of other factors.
Ah, well. I'll sell them at conventions this year and that will recoup my costs, so I'm not too worried about the amount I invested into it, especially not with what my artist told me.
I've been working with him for over 2 years. He's an awesome guy who lives internationally, and we've become friends through our work together. In the earlier part of 2023, he had emergency surgery for something he's been struggling with for years but hasn't had the money or the time to get the surgery for.
Fast forward a few months, he's recovered and ready to start the comic. We work on it for several months, and when he's finished, he tells me that the comic work saved him financially. His entire savings was wiped out from the emergency surgery, and the money I'd been paying him for the art kept him from being destitute.
It was such a humbling moment for me. The fact that I was providing invaluable help for another person during such a hardship, and without even knowing I was doing that, really hit me hard. So even if I never recoup the money I invested into the comic back, I'm fine with it knowing what I know now.
And no, I'm not crying. My eyes are sweating!
*deep breath*
Onward. I expect editing and the audio narration for Tomb of Oaths to take a few weeks, plus I'm going on vacation next week, so I plan to release it in February sometime. I'll provide an update once I have a firm release date.
Below you'll find a free ebook promo and the link to my Kickstarter. I hope that you'll consider backing the project. It's the culmination of over a year's worth of effort and I'm so excited to see it become a reality.
What I’m reading: I've been hard at work writing, so I still haven't done any reading.
What I’m watching: I've been working my way through one of my favorite shows. It's called Evil and it's on Paramount+. It's a series about the battle between science and religion, and it's SO GOOD. I highly recommend it if you haven't seen it.
What are you reading/watching?
As always, a huge thank you for the support!
Richard
