Blurb:

For the past year, Detective Dan Forrester has made it his mission to shut down Rawhide Ranch — a resort catering to the type of men who enjoy inflicting pain. So when he receives yet another postcard asking him to come for a visit, he finally gives in.

Maybe now he'll be able to gather the evidence he needs to close the Ranch's doors forever and put Derek Hawkins behind bars.

But his black and white worldview is put to the test when he meets sweet, beautiful Lacey, one of the Ranch's Littles who has spent the last five years in a wheelchair.

New Year's Eve is a time for new beginnings...but is Dan willing to turn his back on everything he believes to be a Daddy for the woman of his dreams?

“Are you going to smack my hand, Daddy?”

“This isn’t for your hand,” he told her gently. “It’s for your bottom.”

Excerpt:

Shit, Sadie was running his way.

That’s one way of dodging the awkward answers he refused to look too closely at, and he barely had time to brace himself before she threw her arms around his middle and hugged him tight.

“You came! Why didn’t anyone tell me?”

He was willing to bet that oversight was not an accident.

“What’s up?” he asked, forcing himself to relax in her grip until she was ready to let him go.

“I was so afraid you weren’t going to come.” Stepping back, she grinned at him. A cheeky smile if he’d ever seen one.

“Kind of hard to stay away when someone kept writing to me, begging me to come for a visit. I mean, the letters were nice, before you switched to postcards.”

“Postcards are a lot less writing,” she said with a sage nod.

“So I gathered. Maybe writing a letter wouldn’t be so difficult if you’d stop earning yourself lines. That was an interesting letter to receive. No hello, or goodbye. Just thirteen handwritten pages full of ‘I will not bug Daddy about the detective’.”

“I thought you’d enjoy that.” The bridge of her nose crinkled when she grinned. “I got those because of you. It’s only fair that I share them.”

“Obviously lines don’t work. Lacey will be so relieved.”

“You know Lacey?” Another grin, another adorable nose crinkle.

He wasn’t biting. “I can’t help wondering why you worked so relentlessly to get me here, considering how hard I was on you during the investigation.”

She blew that off with a shrug. “You were doing your job.”

“I was treating the victim of a crime very badly.”

Laughing softly, she shook her head. “You were trying to wrap your mind around how someone who’d been beaten as bad as I had been could want to live in a place where she’s happy dressing in clothes so much younger than she, or playing with toys, or eating off Disney plates and plastic silverware with ladybugs on it. Where I watch cartoons and recently got spanked for the way I lobbied Daddy to add Disney Plus to the Littles’ private dorms.” She leaned in close, as if she were a dear conspirator. “And I’d do it again even though it’s not easy watching a movie sitting on a thoroughly spanked bottom.”

He nodded. “Especially that part.”

“Because no one can consent to being hurt?”

“I dare say, the way the world is going, that may get changed in our lifetime.”

“Good.” She gave his shoulder a playful bump with her fist. “It should. Done right, it doesn’t hurt anyone. Especially not when it’s a Little getting spanked over Daddy’s knee. I know it’s hard to wrap your mind around that, but it’s the truth. There are times I misbehave just so Daddy will punish me.”

“Why?” he asked again, his mind working, but not on his old case and maybe even not on Rawhide Ranch in general. Rather, it was Lacey he kept seeing in his mind’s eye. Lacey, and the way she’d whispered how long it’s been since last she was taken care of in such a way.

Sadie shrugged.

“No, seriously,” he countered. “Why? It’s a missing piece I just don’t get. Why would s—you want that?”

She looked at him, surprised at first, and then speculative. “Because only someone who loves you that much would do that to and, more importantly, for you.”
