Jan 2nd Devotion

I grew up in the era of the bumper sticker fad. We all had bumper stickers. There was also the fish on the back of Christian’s cars. My pastor had a led foot and felt like it wasn’t quite right to have a fish on his car representing Jesus in a poor manner. One bumper sticker stuck out at the time. “Wise men still seek Him”. How true that is. The people that I most admire are those that follow after Jesus. The older people that have followed Jesus for a long time readily admit that the Lord first got their attention in a dramatic way, just like the star grabbed the attention of the wise men.

Isn’t that the way God is with us. Just like He planned the star to guide the foreign dignitaries, He uses the light of His word to guide us. Just like he initiated the event to draw the wise men to find Jesus, He uses the light of people transformed by the Gospel to direct us to Jesus. God is the great initiator. He doesn’t leave us in the dark to grope around and stumble. He lights our way right to His son Jesus. Yes wise men still seek Him, but God’s initiative overwhelms us. We tend to think we are in control. He is graciously in control and we just have to open our eyes to the Jesus that is in front of us.

This year how will you respond to Jesus? What gift will you offer Him? Worship is the heart response that best fits the one born the king to rule. Join me this year in regularly gathering with God’s people and worshipping Jesus.
