Is it really normal to gain weight in perimenopause?

Hola ,

This is a magic question and the answer is...

Yes, kinda sorta because of declining estrogen levels and if you're on the pill or were on the pill, you might be familar with the same type of weight gain. However the pill talk is for another time. Balanced estrogen levels are responsible for keeping the weight off.

BUT there is a BIG BUT. If your diet has not been that good aka eating crap and always dieting, you haven't been exercising or over exercising and you are stressed tuh hell out, these factors are more responsible for your weight gain. Reducing estrogen is like gasoline on the cane fire (poor habits).

So yes you can blame decreasing estrogen but if you aren't addressing the above, you will continue to struggle with perimenopause weight loss.

It's no longer enough to say that you don't have time to take care of you. It's time to make your health a priority if you want to look and feel good during the phase and beyond.

How to do this? The BASICS NEVER FAIL

  1. Eat clean sources of protein - chicken, fish, lean cuts of beef, goat and lamb, eggs, beans, pork
  2. Eat your vegetables and limited fruits. They are a source of fibre and micronutrients
  3. Hydrate, hydrate with water, coconut water and/or herbal teas
  4. Eat clean fats like coconut oil, olive oil, nuts (if you aren't allergic), omega 3 fatty acids, cod liver oil, butter like Anchor New Zealand. Sorry margarine and the cheaping cooking oils don't make the cut.
  5. Eat smart carbs - ground provisions, brown rice, oats. Macaroni pie is not a smart carb, nor chips.
  6. Reduce alchohol, sugary foods and processed foods
  7. Engage in activities that bring you joy. Regular orgasms help
  8. Deep breathing, meditation and yoga
  9. High Intensity Interval Training
  10. Fix your sleep hygiene

Yes I am like a broken record stuck on one thing but THE BASICS NEVER FAIL. If you need help implementing any of them, I am here to help you.
