Exostar is now available on Amazon and at your local bookstore (upon request).
It has already hit four bestseller lists, including Children's Sci-Fi Action & Adventure, Children's Astronomy. Children's Space Exploration and I've even seen it competing with Ben Archer in the Children's Aliens category! Careful, Ben, or Trin Moonrise is going to kick you off your pedestal!

Behind the scenes:
Exostar might not be the longest book you've ever read, yet an incredible amount of work went on behind the scenes. Every book I write is a new learning experience, and Exostar was no exception. Fortunately, I had my wonderful editor, Cristy Watson, to guide me!
- First, I needed a plot.
- Second, I realized the background for my plot was lacking. It was like watching the characters running around in front of a blank screen. That's when I realized I needed to do some serious world-building (planets, aliens, gadgets, spaceships, etc.).
- Third, my main character had a prosthetic leg. This allowed me to humbly experience life through the eyes of the inspiring social media influencers, Jo Beckwith and Martyna Roderick, who graciously share their knowledge as amputees.
- Fourth, since I was in a fictional galaxy far away, I couldn't use "Earth-words" such as helicopter, seagull, marble etc. because these things only exist on Earth. It was an interesting exercise to replace these words, yet keep the ones that could potentially still exist on other livable planets, such as seaweed, plant, diamond etc.
- Fifth, my protagonist doesn't know whether she is an android or a mortal being. Does she have a soul? Are her feelings real or synthetic? Because of this dilemma, I realized that I couldn't describe her inner feelings (she felt happy, she felt sad). Her reactions had to remain on the surface. No easy feat, let me tell you!
Resources:
I have something fun for you to do. Since Exostar is a mixture of fictional world-building mixed with scientific facts, you'll read about quantum superposition, cryogenic sleep, supergiants, androids, biotechnology etc. But you'll also learn alien words such as MT Device, albagull, colossosaurus, silver galandalum, blistering ions and many more.
Head over to my website and stroll around the "Resources" section. Immerse yourself in Trinket's universe and let your mind wander. Feel free to doodle in the "Draw fictional characters" section and email me the result. Or draw anything you want - show me your talents!
Here's an example:
What's up in the neighbourhood?
Launch month is always extremely busy. There are so many little details to consider before pressing the PUBLISH button. Fortunately, I had no issues with Amazon. However, I ran into a couple of unfortunate glitches.
My pre-launch book signing event at Chapters - Indigo (the Canadian equivalent of Barnes & Nobles) was cancelled because the store suffered a nation-wide cyberattack. Everything got resolved and I'm sure they'll reschedule.
Second, the platform I use to find new book recommendations also suffered a glitch, meaning that there is no March reading list. Although... you could head over to my Instagram account instead and check out the following reels for page-turning book ideas:
- 18 middle grade and young adult books with girl protagonists.
- 17 middle grade and young adult books with boy protagonists.
Happy Spring Break reading!
All the best,
Rae
