Hey, my favorite people!
The last week flew by for me. My oldest son just finished his first year of Kindergarten! This was a very weird time to have a child start school, but my little guy and his classmates all impressed me with their bravery, flexibility, and willingness to adapt. My younger son will start preschool in the fall when his brother begins first grade. I'm torn between wanting them to stay little forever and enjoying having a little more freedom as they become less dependent on me... I guess that's the parenting dilemma!
What I'm writing
I've been working hard on the extended version of Jaywalking, and I think it's going really well! But I notoriously go through cycles of loving and hating my works in progress, so I don't completely trust my instincts just yet. I did schedule the editor for the additional chapters, so everything is on track so far for a second edition release this summer.
Jaywalking the novella is still available for $0.99, and the novella will essentially be the first half of the new, full-length edition, with just a couple minor changes that previous readers might not even notice. So if you've already read it or been thinking of reading it, trust that I will figure out a way to get the extended edition to those who already bought the novella at a special lower price.
What I'm reading
Also, I have to post a retraction... last week I said that Indra Vaughn and Lynn Van Dorn wrote Vespertine. You may well know this already, but Leta Blake and Indra Vaughn are the authors. I knew this and yet still mistyped. Sorry. :(
I finished Sonata Form last week, by Carole Cummings. It's a wonderfully original fantasy novel with a dragon sanctuary, all kinds of magic, political intrigue, and bonus mm romance.
The cover of Burning Season
I'm going to post the pre-order for Burning Season soon, which means it's time to share the amazing cover designed by Cate Ashwood! I thought that sharing it with you in puzzle form might be fun... plus, you can try to beat my time! If you have trouble with moving light, you may wish to do the still version, but the video puzzle is really fun! Try to beat my time of ~3:50!
Undertow available through the end of the month
As I mentioned last week, all twenty-eight chapters of Undertow, a fantasy m/m romance I've been sharing with you week by week in this newsletter, are available to read on my website! I will be taking down that page at the end of the month as I circle back to start revising the book and preparing it to be sent to an editor. So, read while you can and let me know what you think!
Two more weeks to vote on the next newsletter serial
You have two more weeks to vote in my pilot season. The project that gets the most votes will become the next mailing list serial novel that you'll be able to read for free, chapter by chapter. The current leader in the vote is Night & Day, followed by The Term.
Answer a survey, win a book
For a chance to win your choice of my e-books, take this survey about Facebook reader groups. I'll list winners by first name and last initial in next week's email. If you're chosen, you can email me to claim your book.
Until next time,
xo
