Hey, amazing humans!

The last week has been a blur. There's something about the summer season that has that effect: the days run together but while some seem wonderfully long, others are short. Like, maybe, time has paused to let me linger in a contented moment, and then had to rush forward to get back on track.

I love being outside and seeing the grass grow and the flowers bloom, so summer is pretty much my ideal season, time-space continuum shenanigans notwithstanding.

I can't believe how close I'm getting to my publication anniversary on August 11. I've concocted some individual celebrations in the places I hang out online, including Instagram. I'm also planning to open a Facebook reader group in August. I'm planning a HUGE grand opening/"publiversary" party there, and you'll be the first people I invite.

I'm still brainstorming something extra-special to celebrate with those of you who have trusted me with your email addresses and your time each week here on my mailing list. Fill out this form to tell me what you'd enjoy the most. When you submit the form you'll also be placed in a random drawing to win any e-book from my backlist. I'll announce the winner in next week's email.

What I'm reading

This week has been a big writing week for me, which means I haven't gotten a chance to read or unwind quite as much as I would usually like.

Last week I shared a vow to read only physical books that I already own this month, and then I immediately violated said vow when I picked up Lily Morton's Beautifully Unexpected in e-book.

I have no shame or regret, though, because even though I am only midway through, the story is clearly just as lovely as all the books I've read by this author. Beautifully Unexpected reminds me exactly why I have a soft spot for characters embracing love as fully formed adults.

What I'm writing

I always get an energy boost as I near the last act of a book. I'm getting to that point with Burning Season and I'm happy to ride the writing high and make swift progress toward "the end," which I hope to reach in the next week or two.

Other author-y things that have been happening this week include working with the cover designer on the artwork for the re-release of Sleepwalker, which I'm thrilled about, and also getting the revised version off to the editor.

I had originally planned to release Sleepwalker in August, a couple weeks after Jaywalking, but now I've decided to push it into October so that Burning Season, which releases September 14, will have a little more breathing room.

Having so many books planned for release back-to-back fills me with a combination of excitement and dread! It will be a busy fall, and I hope you're all prepared to hold my hand and/or pat me on the head, because I'll need it.
