Hey, amazing people!
Over the past week I've been getting in some good riding time. A few weeks ago I mentioned that we leveled a space on our property for an arena, which was necessary for any kind of disciplined riding because we essentially live on a rocky hillside. The footing we put down on the surface isn't perfectly level, but it's close enough that I've been able to exercise the horses.
You might remember (or not, if you're new!) that I have two horses, a gelding who's fourteen this year and a mare who's eight. My gelding is quirky but all of his responses to upset are mild. My mare is quirky and all of her responses to upset are dialed to eleven. She stays a lot more confident and focused when we're in a routine, which we haven't been since we moved and I haven't had a good place to ride her. But over the past couple of weeks she's really settled down, and I got to enjoy her lovely canter yesterday for the first time in several months, without worrying that she was going to hear the wind change course through the grass and try to do a somersault with me still on her back.
Oh, the joys of horseback riding. The older I get, the more insane it seems, but it's one of those things that's basically incurable once it gets in your blood.
What I’m writing
I spent most of this month finishing two short stories and trying to sort out the last two chapters of Undertow (more about that below), which means that this week I can finally start working on Burning Season in earnest. This will be the third book in the Wild Ones series, which began with Long Winter. I haven't started writing the book down yet, but the characters have been living in my head for long enough that I can't wait to learn more about them, and introduce them to you. There's a definite "grumpy one/sunshine one" aspect to their dynamic that I find incredibly sweet, and I can never resist a snarky hero, so Dylan Chase is exactly my type.
What I'm reading
I've been listening to more Roan Parrish books in audio. I'm late to the party but this is my first experience of the Middle of Somewhere series, and I'm absolutely loving it. I just started book three.
I love the slow pace and natural evolution of the characters and their feelings for each other, and I forgot how much I enjoy having a single point-of-view character. I love the added tension of thinking that I know what the other character is feeling, but having to wait to find out for sure.
Do you prefer single or dual point-of-view in romance?
Reader survey
You have one more week to answer the survey questions for a chance to win a book of your choice from my catalogue. AND, because I've already had so many entries, I've decided to pick two winners. I'll bump that up a little bit more depending on whether there are additional responses this week.
You'll need to check next week's email to know if you won, and email me to claim your prize.

Coming next week--Chapters 24 and 25 of Undertow
I know, I know... I should be sending you Chapter 24 this week. A chapter per week, that was the deal! BUT, I haven't quite written The End after Chapter 25 yet, and I think there's a good chance I'll have to make some adjustments to Chapter 24 based on how things get tied up in Chapter 25. So, I think the best thing to do is to deliver BOTH chapters to you in a week's time. I'm sorry for any disappointment! Feel free to yell at me via e-mail. ;)
For those who haven't checked it out yet, you can get up-to-speed before next week by reading the first twenty-three chapters of this fantasy m/m romance (with pirates!) on my website.

I've been working on a short story for a BDSM romance anthology, and now that it's finished, I want to thank you for your support by giving you a copy for free! I really hope you enjoy Elliott, an almost-forty rope bunny, and his pool boy Clay, who's been keeping a secret.
