Jan 06, 2023 2:32 pm
Could your January use more joy? We can help. Browse this month's offerings below, then head over to Instagram to follow @quirkeventshq for reminders about what's happening near you. And for those of you itching for a chance to practice your trivia skills, we’ve got you—there’s a question set waiting for you at the end of this email!
Zoom Trivia Night
Our Zoom Trivia Night attendees can play with teams of friends located anywhere in the world, making it perfect for those long-distance friendships, snowed-in nights, or people who just hate putting on pants to play trivia. Sign up for our next game below! (Oh, and, word on the street is we post practice questions to our Instagram... given it a look yet?)
Trivia Pub Crawl
We've taken the best parts of pub trivia and pub crawls, we've rolled them into one awesome night, and we're bringing it to Queens on Friday, January 20. You'll visit four of our favorite Astoria bars and undergo a round of trivia at each stop. Think you've got what it takes to be our champion? Register with a group, or sign up solo to let us match you with a team! (Just to be clear, the button below takes you to our ticketing page. If, you were thinking, where's the link to our very cool Instagram profile? that would be here).
Board Game Speed Dating
Attention singles with dating app fatigue: Ditch the phone, and meet us at Katch Astoria. (Well, don't totally ditch the phone. If you did, then you wouldn't be able to follow our world-class Instagram account. Better follow us and meet us at Katch, just to be safe.) Our Board Game Speed Dating nights offer a low-pressure, group-oriented, IRL way for guys and ladies ages 27-39 to meet new people and learn some new games. Get the scoop here:
Help Design Our Next Feud Night
We need your help to build our next Feud Night! (No, it doesn't involve following us on Instagram, though you should definitely jump on that, too.) Take the survey below to weigh in on such important questions as, "What’s something that goes well with peanut butter?" and, "Name something that comes out at night." Your anonymous answers will be featured in the next edition of our game!
Trivia: Are These Social Media Sites Real or Fake?
Over the years, some social media sites and apps have fared better than others (like Instagram, home of @quirkeventshq, a must-follow for those with exquisite taste). Can you sort out the real, defunct social media platforms from the ones we made up?
- Arizona Anonymous: App partially funded by the State Dept of Arizona for citizens to share feedback and connect with their local officials.
- FFFFOUND!: "Social bookmarking" site for sharing images you ffffound on the internet.
- Jeremy Renner Official: App for fans of Jeremy Renner. Renner himself would occasionally answer questions from fans or host a livestream.
- HotPotato: Named after the children's game, members could earn Potato Points by resharing content within a set time period.
- Makeoutclub: Despite the name, site claimed to focus on indie music culture, though users could add others to a "crushlist."
- MarkWorld: Site for people named Mark. Started as an April Fools’ joke, but after gaining traction, allowed non-Marks to join with the profile label "Friend of a Mark."
- Netropolitan Club: Exclusively for the wealthy, site charged a $9000 sign-up fee (but hey, no ads!).
- Planet Cancer: Site for young adults with cancer. Included a news section called "Cancertainment."
- Unbridld: Site for horse owners. Users could give out apples instead of likes.
- WeeWorld: Focused on young teens and tweens with avatars called WeeMees.
Happy New Year, and game on!
