Bonus Round: They Were Called WHAT?
Can you name the famous band that was originally known by the other name written below?
- Mookie Blaylock (This Seattle-based band named itself in 1990 after a New Jersey Nets player whose basketball card wound up in the tape case of one of their demos.)
- Tom and Jerry (This famous duo went by the same name as the cartoon show when they were 15-year-old kids, before using their real names, even though they risked alienating segments of the country that weren't amenable to openly Jewish entertainers.)
- On a Friday (This British band used to rehearse on Fridays after high school got out, hence the name, but eventually took inspiration from The Talking Heads for their name.)
- Smile (This rock band’s awesomeness couldn’t be contained in such a vanilla name, which led the lead singer to declare about their name change, “Glamour is a part of us and we want to be dandy. We want to shock and be outrageous.")
- Kara’s Flowers (This famous band originally named themselves after a groupie who had a crush on all of them, but since it sounded like a girl group, they changed their name to the now-famous nonsense name that followed the trend of groups like Blink-182 and Matchbox 20.)
- Sweet Children (This long-time band thought that “Sweet” wasn’t punk enough for them, so they changed to a name that refers to a period of time in which not much is done except smoking marijuana.)
- Tony Flow and the Miraculously Majestic Masters of Mayhem (This band - with a new name that is still six syllables long, refers to how they wanted to play music: majestic and chaotic, which they achieved, as anyone who has seen their bassist jumping around on stage can plainly see.)
- The Polo Club (This rap group eventually changed its name, thinking it was too generic, to better reflect the fact that its three members are all long-time friends.)
- FC6 (This Australian hip hop artist changed to his current name because his maternal great-great grandfather was Aboriginal of Gamilaraay descent.)
