Lookout Midatlantic, Here Comes Quirk
Jan 18, 2025 1:35 pm
Like some of the finest balloons in the land, Quirk Events is expanding. We're coming to a bunch of new spots up and down the east coast, many of which we'll start telling you about in this newsletter. That's right, get excited, this is no longer simply the New York/New Jersey newsletter. It is now officially the Midatlantic Newsletter! We'll now also be telling you about events in Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC. And we're almost sure that means we're using the term "Midatlantic" correctly.
Get Some Free Tickets for Helping Us Grow
Like we said, we're coming to a bunch of new cities that don't know us, so we're hoping you can help us make some friends. And if you can, we'd love to celebrate that introduction with some free tickets to a local Quirk Event wherever you live.
Below are links to the upcoming events page for each of the areas we are adding. For any spot where a friend of yours buys a ticket to one of our events, we'll give you a free ticket to the upcoming event of your choice wherever you are located. Know someone who'd be a great host in one of these areas? Have them fill out an application at www.quirkevents.com/jobs and even if we don't hire them, we'll still give you a free ticket (they just have to show up for the interview).
Here's how it works: When someone you know buys a ticket in one of the areas below, all they need to do is enter discount code QUIRK. Doing so will reveal a hidden ticket that's 10% off. After they buy the ticket, it'll ask them who referred them, and they'll enter your name and email, then we'll thank you by sending you a one-time coupon code good for a free ticket to any future Quirk Event. And for any of your friends who apply for a job, in the section where it asks them why they think they'd be a good fit for the job, have them include your name and email address. Please note: to get your free ticket, they must buy their ticket or apply for their job by the end of January 2025, and this offer only applies in the six regions linked to below. Coupon codes for free tickets will be sent after our first event in that region takes place.

And Finally, a Round of Trivia.
Let's close things out with a few questions about government, politics and public service. Quirk Events style.
Public Service
- The landmark 2015 Supreme Court decision Obergefell v. Hodges ruled that same-gender marriage was protected under which Constitutional amendment?
- What contentious US policy was implemented by President Lincoln to fund the Union war effort, repealed in 1872, revived in 1894, ruled unconstitutional a year later by the Supreme Court, then finally embraced through an amendment to the Constitution in 1913 - in anticipation of another war effort?
- When Elon Musk’s The Boring Company sold 20,000 promotional flame throwers, it got in trouble with the California state government, prompting Musk to sell what instead, saying they would be “overpriced” but would “come with a really cool sticker?”
- What website, which launched on January 15, 2001 and is now one of the most visited sites in the world, once temporarily banned anyone with an IP address linked to the US Congress because of multiple attempts to significantly edit the site’s content?
- Two of the following statements about the 2000 election are real. One, we just made up. Which one is fake?
A) When the Supreme Court heard Bush v Gore on December 11, they had only one day to make a momentous decision, as Florida had to assign its electors by December 12.
B) As of the 2022 election, Florida’s Sarasota County was still using its controversial punch-card voting machines.
C) While Florida got more attention, the election’s vote count in New Mexico was even closer, where Gore won by a mere 366 votes.
