{{contact.first_name}}, do you "gather requirements" or "elicit information" on your projects? π§π€¨

In my experience working with new BAs and PMs, they often assume elicitation means requirement gathering.
I also struggled with both concepts in my early days as a BA,π«π« so you are not alone. However, to ensure my Learners do not make the same mistakes I made, I often spend time clarifying this common area of confusion.
"Elicitation" is a noun, from the root word "elicit" (a verb).
According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, elicit means to call forth or draw out (something, such as information or a response, feelingβ¦).
From a business analysis perspective, elicitation is the drawing forth or extraction of βinformationβ (not requirements) ππ from stakeholders or other sources internal and external to the organization.
In this video, I described how to plan, prepare, and conduct elicitation sessions, then validate information collected before progressing with further business analysis work using the information collected.
