Here's Invest With Pete weekly update for Mar 22, 2022... as usual, my update on Stock Market and Property Market below
Stock Market
So much has happened since my last email on 21 Feb. Since then, we had:
- Ukraine Russia War
- US Inflation number going to 7.9%, highest in 40 years
- First Interest Rate Hike since 2018.. and the likelihood of 6 more hikes in 2022
- Fed announces stopping of their bond repurchases and ending QE as early as May
Naturally, all these sounds very familiar to me. As a student of financial history, I am always fascinated by market crashes and recessions. They always seem to catch everyone by surprise and the causes seem to vary each time.
However, we did see a four day gain streak last week, which gave a lot of investors hope. However, it eerily looks like what we experience back in January. (See below)
This looks like a typical BULL TRAP in a bear market. So overall, without further evidence, I would say that the market correction is still underway.
As for this week, we are seeing some exciting earnings.
Adobe, Nike, Pinduoduo, Tencent, Factset, Nio
Overall, with the lack of any catalyst for the upside, this current market seems to be geared towards more downside in the near term. There are a few factors in play here.
- Persistently high inflation
- 6 more rate hikes in 2022
- High oil prices.
All these factors are traditionally pre-cursors for a recession.
Once again, I believe we are already in a bear market and a recession should soon follow. However, it doesn't mean that I am not investing.
Rather, I am GEARING UP to invest more. Historically, the start of a recession is one of the best time to invest. So while the market correction is underway, I am busy researching and getting ready to invest.
As for my investment service, I am raising funds from the clients, getting ready a watchlist of great businesses and take advantage of lower prices whenever it comes.

Property Market
Singapore property prices remain strong in 2022 with slightly lower transaction volume in Jan and Feb due to holidays and low number of new launches. However, one driving factor that I foresee in 2022 is the return of PR and foreigner back to Singapore. Based on statistics, we are expecting close to 200,000 to return to Singapore.
This is also one of the reasons for higher rental prices.
Overall, properties continue to be an effective inflation hedge and a stable anchor for my stocks and options portfolio which are more volatile.
Overseas Property Market
However, with the increased ABSD (17%), it is harder for us to buy a second property in Singapore to expand our property portfolio.
The obvious solution is to buy Overseas Properties.🌏
However, the key question is HOW?
I bought a condo in central Bangkok in the past and while it went up in prices, I didn’t make any profits!
Insane right? How can I be right about the property and not profit from it? 🤯🤯 (tell you more next time)
The key is finding Trustworthy Partners
This is why I had been searching for partners to learn more about overseas properties.
Not course sellers but REAL PROPERTY MANAGERS. 👍👍
