All magic comes with a price.

The small city of Boneswell has always been steeped in tradition, and Carmen Himmel is no exception. She is the latest in a long line of women who have specialized in hunting witches, wearing a fabled red cloak imbued with the ability to resist magic. Up until now, Carmen has dedicated her life to the routines binding her to Boneswell and the isolated life of a huntress.

Penance the Piper comes to town bearing irresistible charm, and eventually promises to kill off the current plague of rats for a price. Only Carmen can see the truth behind Penance’s painted smile and enchanted music: that he is a sorcerer and that his magic is slowly corrupting the town from within.

When Penance takes an interest in Carmen, she finds herself thrust into the spotlight in unexpected ways and forced to make a decision that could change her world forever.

The Piper’s Wake is a crossover between “Little Red Riding Hood” and “The Pied Piper,” two classic tales bound by a magical twist and an unforeseeable outcome.

I will gain power, no matter the cost. I will avenge my people.

My name is Sabine O’Reilly. Forty years ago, the witches of the Irish Isle were hunted and killed. Deceived by the church, the people were turned against the covens that had healed them, birthed them, and protected them from evil for centuries. Those who survived were forced south by ship to Africa. My parents were on that ship...

Author News

One of the most nerve-wracking parts of publishing is the fact that no matter how hard you edit or perfect your regimen of pushing a book back in shape, there will always be minor errors and things that slip past your attention as the author. I still find myself picking typos out of books I published years ago and pulling a late night to put the revised version in order!

Hardly a day after I first set up the preorder for The Piper's Wake, one of my beta readers alerted me to a few needed clarifications. This put things out of order more than expected, even though the book should be much better now.

Anyway, I'm planning to take a quick break before getting to my next project (the third book in the Madcaps series).

Publishing is exhausting!

Ciao!
