If you want to skip reading this newsletter and get the book right away, here’s the link:
Book 5 begins right where Book 4 left off, with Cayce waking up, alone in the woods. I’ll let Cayce say it herself:
I don’t know if I can make it this time.
The mages are hunting me. They betrayed our army, killed Morry.
With his last breath, Etienne told me to go to this temple, far up north. It held the answers I needed. Where I came from, who I was, why I had terrifying, destructive power. Tools to fight the mages.
But it’s not safe between here and there. Monsters stalk the forests and enemy armies are tearing my kingdom apart. And I am alone.
I don’t know if I can make it to the temple.
But I have to.
I have to.
Behind the Scenes
I’m super happy to have finished this series – but also a little sad. The Cayce books are my first attempts at writing fantasy. It’s a little overwhelming to have actually finished an entire series. And I’ve come to enjoy having the characters live in my head. The way Brin teases Cayce, the discomfort Cayce feels at being herself, and her banter with the big man.
But the story demanded an ending. It started with a few mysteries: “why am I here, in this body and on this planet?” Though her life and problems take Cayce all over the place, the initial why-questions stayed with her wherever she went and needed answering. They get answered!
Book 5 is the longest so far. It’s almost 10% longer than Book 4, which was the previous record holder. So, even though this is the conclusion, you’re getting a lot of story in it!
After Cayce, I’ll be starting a new story, but telling it in a different way. I’m going to try my hand at serial writing, posting individual chapters on my Patreon and, much later, in book format on Amazon. Patreon is like Facebook, but those who join support the author through a monthly subscription. Patronage is an old system, with the wealthy supporting the arts, so it’s a little odd to see it return, but I guess the internet made it possible. Anyways, if this doesn’t appeal to you, and you have plenty of patience, the books will eventually make it onto Amazon.
However, if you would like to support my writing and get new chapters immediately, you can do so here:

The new story is called The Nano Apocalypse. It's first two chapters are at the end of Cayce Book 5. The story is a mixture of science fiction and fantasy, where a team from a Star Trek-like space faring civilization find themselves trapped in a fantasy world.
It’s a terrible idea for writers to mix genres like this! But sometimes stories just need telling.
And that’s it for this newsletter! In the next one, I’m going to discuss an odd combination: chariots and angel trumpets. Chariots because of Book 4 and angel trumpets because of Book 5.
Happy reading and have an excellent weekend!
Oh! One last thing: Books 1-2 will be on sale for 99c from March 5th and Book 3 from March 7 if you read them on KU and are interested in purchasing them (the reason for the mismatch in dates is because of Amazon's rules).
