NEW Sector Adventures, Desert Island Survival Game and more!

Hi ,

Are those jingle bells I hear? Christmas is tantalizingly close and I'm sure you are looking forward to some well-earned downtime with family at the end of a challenging year.

But before you cosy up with the sherry and mince pies, here are the details of our latest uploads to the Panjango Resource Bank...

Scheme Lessons

We've added two more lessons to our Explore, Experience, Thrive scheme of work folder...

Lesson 5c: The Desert Island Survival Game

This is classed as an 'optional' lesson in our Scheme of Work but is a game we feel every student should play!

The lesson is a really fun and interactive way for students to develop an understanding of transferable skills - by exploring how the skills of ten professionals could be put to use in a desert island survival situation!

I've personally run this game with dozens of classes and it's always hugely popular with students. We've now packaged it up into a visually engaging powerpoint to structure the activity and allow students around the country to enjoy it.

Lesson 3b: Sector Adventure

We've added a Lesson Plan to accompany our range of Sector resources which have been our focus over the past month (see more below).

These allow students to explore and reflect on a sector of the world of work that interests them, and discover more about a dozen career opportunities available within each one.

Sector Resources

We've significantly expanded the range of sectors students can explore with the addition of six new sectors including:

These join the sectors already in the Resource Bank (Engineering; Environment, Animals & Plants; Health & Social Care; and Retail) - so there are ten sectors in total now ready to explore.

We'll be adding our final four sectors over the next month so that we have every sector of the world of work covered.

Issues Resources

We've also been busy working with some industry experts to create a couple of important new Issues resources...

Firstly, we worked with a doctor to produce a First Aid resource to help students understand more about first aid through challenges showing how different professionals may use it as part of their job.

Secondly, this is the time of year when young people are most at risk of homelessness. So we've been working with someone from a youth homelessness charity to create a Homelessness resource to help students understand how they can reduce the risk of homelessness for themselves and their friends.

Spotlight: Christmas Resources

We hope you've been making good use of the Careers Advent Calendar we sent out in our last update.

If not, it's not too late as it would make for the perfect fun, end of term activity to run with students before they head off on their Christmas holidays. Alternatively, you could send them home with the calendar to complete over the holiday with their family.

We also have a Careers at Christmas resource exploring all the work that goes on over the festive period - and a Santa Claus resource allowing students to step into the shoes of the big man to complete challenges relating to his job!

Note: there are easier versions of our Christmas resources in the Resource Bank too.

Access Resource Bank

Please note that we've updated the Dropbox link to our Resource Bank so please update to the one above if you have it bookmarked.

As always, we welcome your feedback - and we also take requests! So it would be great to hear from you - just hit reply to send us a quick message.

Otherwise, we'll be in touch again soon with the next batch of updates...
