Don’t Hire a Contractor Without Checking This

Hi ,
If you are planning to have your house painted, or hiring any contractor to work at your home, there is one important thing to ask for before the work begins:
A current Certificate of Insurance.
This document helps confirm that the contractor has proper coverage in place, including important items like general liability, workers’ compensation, commercial auto, and possibly umbrella or excess liability coverage.
Why does this matter?
Because if a painter damages your property, a ladder falls, paint overspray affects a neighbor’s car, or a worker is injured on the job, you do not want to find out after the fact that the contractor was uninsured or underinsured.
We put together a simple guide explaining what to ask for, what coverage matters, and why your homeowners policy should not be treated as a backup insurance plan for a contractor.
And if you are a client and want help reviewing a contractor’s Certificate of Insurance before work starts, feel free to send it over.
Best,
George
