Recently we added our first research bundle to Pagan Places, filled with literature about Mithraism. Today we have an updated version available.

Mithraism was -and is- really something special. As a mystery religion centered around the god Mithras it was practiced mostly in the Roman Empire from the 1st to the 4th century CE. It was a unique religious cult that included elements of Persian and Roman mythology, as well as initiation rituals, communal meals, and a hierarchical structure. With the rise of Christianity it declined. Its exact beliefs and practices remain shrouded in mystery, which of course adds to its allure and fascination among scholars and enthusiasts today.
