Maps, maps, and more maps: let's have a broader look at mapping pagan places

So, we know we should just be promoting @PaganPlaces in our newsletters. Trying to sell you some stuff you don't need should be part of our repertoire as well, but... Let's go another route and put the spotlight on some other initiatives that could be considered our direct competitors.
There are quite a few initiatives when it comes to mapping sacred sites, pagan or otherwise. These are a few we have come across that you might find interesting:
- The New Mithraeum. Epic website with a ton of information about Mithraism: articles, history, books, and.. a very large database of sites important to Mithraism.
- Then there is The Digital Atlas of Roman Sanctuaries in the Danubian Provinces (DAS). With a catchy name like that you just know there's some sort of government funding. Anyhow, it's a great project mapping Roman religious sanctuaries in what we would now (roughly) call the Balkans
- But the Goliath (if you'll forgive the biblical reference) among these sort of places is still The Megalithic Portal. A massive database of prehistoric sites and a website with a design to match that time period. Seriously though, every time I browse that place I get a little envious; great content and a lot of it.
- Pleiades is another massive database publishing about all sorts of ancient places and spaces.
- To close off this little list, there's Megalithica. Russian website similar to the megalithic portal, but with a lot more content for Russia and central Asia.
(no affiliation with any of these sites by the way, just trying to put the spotlight on sacred sites around the world)
Know of more great sites like these? Let us know via email or our twitter account.
Untill next time! ✌
