I type out a text, I’m drowning in flowers.
I tap send and sit my phone down on the desk like it’s hot. It might as well be, with how apprehensive I feel just sending Urban a simple text. Maybe I should have introduced myself. Or perhaps I shouldn’t have sent the text at all.
I’m cycling through the unyielding thoughts that his presence in my life invokes.
He’s a banker. He’s a criminal.
He’s a gentleman. He’s a player.
He’s the only man to send me flowers. Urban Wharton is a savage.
Then I notice the three dots on my phone, which indicates that he is typing.
“Fuck!” I mutter, sitting up and grabbing the phone, staring at the three dots, willing the message to appear faster.
The dots disappear, and I almost have a heart attack with how fast my heart is beating. Then his text pops in, “Good morning, beautiful. Is that good or bad?
This man is under my skin, and I must put my foot down or agree to the date. I could have refused his flowers and sent them back. I could pretend I’m not interested, and he’s an unwanted nuisance. But I’ve always considered myself an honest person, and my parents and brother raised me right.
I type my truth, I don’t know.
A question pops in the text window. Do you like them?
I’m starting to think you have too much time on your hands. I smile, waiting for Urban’s response.
What else was I supposed to do? Come over there and throw you over my shoulder?
My eyes round at the image his words paint in my mind. I quickly type, You’re coming off kind of stalkerish.
Urban replies, Or romantic. My sister says falling for a stalker is HOT in romance novels.
I laugh until tears roll down my face. BS! I have a license to carry.
I’ll remember that.
I can see his smile in my head.
The chiming stops, and I think he’s not going to send another message for a second. I’m sure he has work to do. He’s running a multi-billion-dollar bank, and I have clients.
But I have so many questions. I want to know if he does this for every woman he wants to date. If this is all about the chase.
The dots reappear, and I hold my breath, dying a little when they disappear. Then the text glows, demanding the truth.
Should I stop?
The words hang between us. This is the ‘out’ I thought I wanted. I can type three simple letters, and no more Urban Wharton. No more Urban feels unbearable.
I shake my head, and I can finally breathe, No.
I exhale and wait with sweaty hands. Urban’s response is super quick, Good, and I’m sure my florist will send you a thank you card.
What about you? I type fast and drop the phone like it’s hot.
I’d be crushed.
Crushed. The words hit harder than disappointed or even devastated.
I didn’t expect that response. My eyes bounce around the room. All I see is evidence of his pursuit of me.
I text my thoughts. Why? You could move on to another woman and save a lot of money.
Urban responds a millisecond after I hit send. But another woman ain’t you.
Will they succumb to the irresistible pull of their desires, or will the reality of their lives keep them apart? Can love blossom amidst the secrets and challenges they face?
There's only one way to find out: dive into the pages and let the romance sweep you away!
Happy reading, and may love always find its way into your heart!
Warmest wishes,
