Recycling Genealogy...

Happy Fall Break if you're getting one!

Our kids are out of school for Fall break, so we're enjoying some family time and not working too hard. Mike did a free webinar at Legacy Family Tree Webinars--Recent updates to MyHeritage's historical record search engine and I managed to get Connecticut and Pennsylvania birth, marriage, and death records added to the OnGenealogy listings. And that's about all that's happened on our end!

Recycling the Genealogy

This has almost nothing to do with genealogy, but I'm going to prep the garden beds for next spring and found a win-win for getting rid of some waste. We have about 500 old city directories we've scanned and we're ready to throw the books away (the bindings and pages have all been cut apart). I'm going to use the old paper pages as the cardboard/paper layer in a lasagna garden bed. We have terrible clay soil that we try to amend every year, and this year I'm going to layer our paper waste with garden waste with other yard clippings and soil and hope all our labors of love make that soil wonderful for next season. I find it strangely comforting to think of all those names of people in my soil. Like a good luck charm.

And, it's Family History Month, so I'm recycling some blog posts from 2017 where I shared one site per day that might be useful in genealogy research. Follow the OnGenealogy Facebook page to see these posts. Here is today's Family History Month, blast from the past post: Family History Month Day 15 - Internet Archive. And remember, you can create your own free account at Internet Archive and upload personal family history and photos there as a place to share with family and the public.
