Framing their memories...

Hope you've had a great week and are looking forward to a productive weekend!
One reason I love the family history industry is it teaches me ways to record and preserve my family history.
Framing their Memories
The way we frame our memories can influence our outlook on life and I like to help my family frame their memories in positive ways to encourage them to remember the good times, learn from the hard times, and persevere with happiness. Our ancestors were resilient and I like to remind my family of how they've come through difficult circumstances as well and should have confidence moving forward.
Movies & Slideshows
During the initial 2020 quarantine, when life seemed to stop, I made a video to remind my family that we had fun traditions and things that continue despite what's going on in the world.
Quilts
I love family quilts and our family loves having quilts pieced from their old jeans and t-shirts--a tangible reminder of the past.
Photo books & Memory Books
I use sites like Chatbooks, Mixbook, or MyCanvas to create memory books each year. MyCanvas will import your family tree and helps you create nice heirloom quality family history books, but a simple memory book is a nice year-in-review gift.
Memorial Coins
For deceased family, a nice option is Vitae Coins, a coin you affix to a gravestone (with permission from the cemetery) that links to a memorial webpage for the deceased person (the webpage is hosted by Vitae Coins but you upload the content).
2021 is almost a wrap...
With 2021 quickly wrapping up and the holidays approaching, now is a great time to consider how we can frame the memories to strengthen our families. Here's a link to some Genealogy Conference vendors who've offered family-related gifts and memorabilia at past conferences.
New and Updated Listings
You can go to the OnGenealogy.com homepage to see the most recent listings.
I'm continuing to add US Directories sites and next week I'll be showcasing some great library collections. Here's an example of an impressive digitized collection: The New Jersey Historical Portal.
Best with your family history,
