Great sites to search for FREE online books...

Hope you've had a great week and are looking forward to some family history research this weekend! We've been consolidating all US city directories listings and if you enjoy hunting for directories on your own, here are some favorite sites:
In the US, some favorite search sites are:
- Internet Archive - be sure to use the Archive search, not the Wayback Machine
- HathiTrust
- Google Books - here's how to find free books
- Library of Congress (has more recent white and yellow pages for many locales)
- DP.LA
- FamilySearch Books and their catalog
- Public Libraries in the locale you're researching--lists of libraries and links to digitized resources are being added for all US states. Here are two examples: Connecticut libraries and Pennsylvania Libraries.
I've never intentionally used directories to search for death dates, but sometimes a person is listed at an address as having died and the death date is given. And I just stumbled across directories/almanacs for the Church of the Brethren/Dunkers and found one of my ancestors, Peter Becker, in these publications--a great addition to our family history.
And if you search for directories at any of these sites, also search for town or county histories and genealogies. You can often find great leads in these publications. Here's what we've added or updated at OnGenealogy this week...
