Something about Day ones and Good Friday.

Hi ,

Today is a special day, it's my mum’s birthday.

As I reflect on her love and influence, I’m reminded that she was my very first muse.

Long before I understood lighting or composition, her quiet strength, patience, and unwavering belief in my creativity gave me the courage to pick up a camera.

She’s the reason I learned to see beauty in ordinary moments.

This got me thinking: Who was your "day one"?

The person who saw your spark before you did.

The one who sacrificed time, resources, or even their own comfort to nurture your craft.

Maybe it’s a parent, a mentor, a friend, or someone whose support felt like a steady hand guiding you through the fog of self-doubt.

Sacrifice is the quiet engine behind so many creative journeys.

Much like the profound love exemplified in sacrifices throughout history and faith (think of how Jesus’ selflessness inspires millions),

our own supporters often give something of themselves to help us grow.

They show up, even when it’s inconvenient. They believe, even when we don’t.

This week, let’s take a moment to honor those who’ve shaped our paths. Reach out to them.

Say their name in gratitude.

Share their story, if you’re moved to.

Let’s never forget that creativity thrives not in isolation, but in community—fueled by the sacrifices of those who love us into becoming our best selves.

And if your "day one" is no longer here, carry their legacy forward by pouring that same love into your work.

Feel free to reply or share your own stories—I’d love to hear about the people who’ve anchored your journey.

With gratitude,

Okedeji Omótèsó

P.S: Yesterday I spoke about the WhatsApp community, and invited you to join the family where you could probably get to meet a day one (incase you don't have one).

We'll be kick-starting things over there by tomorrow so this is the last fall for now.
