,
It’s Monday again — and while you’re probably reading this in transit on your way to work, at your desk in the office, or (if you’re like me) from the comfort of your home still in your pyjamas —
It still doesn’t change the fact that, well...
It’s Monday.
And I can be sure that you probably weren’t looking forward to the day that holds the record for being the
“Most Hated Day of the Week”
(according to Guinness World Records).
Imagine being “Monday” — a name, a tag, assigned to a day that says,
“Hey, back to work, let’s get this!”
, I was thinking to myself (with my philosophical mind):
“Why don’t people actually like Mondays?”
It’s not that the day itself is bad.
No, actually, it’s just like every other day.
Then I realised, perhaps it’s because of what it’s known for —
RESUMPTION TO WORK.
That’s Monday’s tag and brand: WORK.
Interesting stuff.
But then, nobody worries about Mondays when it’s a public holiday — we almost don’t even remember it exists.
Interesting, right?
, my first question to you this morning is…
“What are you known for?”
What you are known for, to a large extent, determines the way people interact with you.
And you build what you’re known for through:
- What you say,
- What you do,
- And how you treat others.
Another interesting thing about Mondays that I’ve noticed is that some people don’t care that it’s Monday — they’re not bothered at all.
I remember back in secondary school, I never looked forward to Mondays.
In fact, I was always sad all through my junior years and never liked it.
Looking back in retrospect, I think it may have affected my learning.
I lost out on opportunities to learn simply because of my mindset about Mondays.
When I eventually got to my senior classes and started doing subjects I loved like physics, chemistry, and mathematics, I don’t remember ever hating Mondays.
In fact, I started looking forward to them as opportunities.
Which brings me to my second lesson for the day:
MINDSET IS EVERYTHING.
I was at LinkedIn Local Nigeria this past Saturday, and one of the many things I learned was that you need to be
“Reasonably Unreasonable.”
We all desire success, but success usually requires that you look at things differently — through a new lens.
So while the rest of the world might hate today, change your perspective and think about:
- The problems you get to solve this week,
- The impact you can make this week.
As you go about your activities this new week, keep these thoughts in mind and make the most of what you have.
Till next week,
I remain your friend,
