THE EMPATHY EDGE
May 04, 2026 6:00 am
Hello Family,
In the world of leadership, we are often told to be "tough" or "strong." But I have learned that the most effective leaders aren't the loudest ones; they are the ones who lead with kindness. Empathy is not a weakness—it is your greatest edge. When you lead with your heart, people don't just work for you; they follow you because they feel seen and valued.
Kindness builds a bridge of trust that no amount of authority can replace.
A Lesson from My Book: Growth is Personal
In my book, Growth is Personal, I share that my journey to fulfillment began with a shift in how I viewed myself and others. I realized that "Growth is Personal," which means every person I encounter is on their own unique and often difficult journey.
I learned that you cannot lead others higher than you have led yourself. When I started practicing self-kindness—forgiving myself for past mistakes and celebrating my small wins—it became much easier to extend that same grace to others. In the "Personal Growth GPS" section of my book, I talk about the importance of being a blessing to your world. Being a blessing starts with empathy. When you understand that everyone is fighting a battle you know nothing about, kindness becomes your natural response.
"Be the kind of leader that people would follow voluntarily, even if you had no title or authority." — Brian Tracy
This Week’s Challenge
Identify one person you work with or lead who seems to be struggling. This week, instead of focusing on their "output," ask them, "How are you doing, really?" Listen more than you speak. Use the empathy edge to build a stronger connection today.
Keep growing,
