Welcome to an Opportune October

imageOctober is such an Opportune Time!

I love October. Outside of November, which is my birthday month, October is such an opportune time to clear out the cobwebs of the year. Usually, around this time of year, I clean out the pantries and stock the shelves with Winter sundries like dried beans, sofrito for making soups, and tons of flavorful crackers. October is also my opportune time to make crafts and work on my craft.

This quilt is not an example of my crafting skills. I hate the quilt, but it is one of the items on my list to get completed this fall. I didn't completely follow the pattern because well, it was chaotic and my mind couldn't reason out all the checks, blocks, and odd fabric choices that came in the kit. I think the areas where I made them into simple strips will become books. Still working it out. I shall keep you posted.

This time of year are tons of Fall writing retreats to get away and recharge the cells. We often take road trips around the state because the weather is cooler and gas is not as expensive. One thing I love about our road trips because they provide “opportune experiences” to learn more about our state. Of course, what I learn is incorporated into my stories.

For example, Sandersville, Georgia is known as the “Kaolin Capital of the World.” Kaolin is one of Georgia’s largest natural resources. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, more than 8 million metric tons of kaolin are mined from Georgia each year, with an estimated value of more than $1 billion. Georgia is by far the leading clay-producing state in America and is recognized as a world leader in the mining, production, processing, and application of kaolin products.

It may not sound familiar to you, but kaolin is used to make ceramics. Yes, you guessed it, my primary character in my next Venture, Georgia story is a ceramist. He does work with the good ole Georgia red clay, but in his high-end ceramics, he uses the “white clay” which is kaolin. See, you learned something new!

My character, Christopher Flynn, made a chunk of his wealth from an app that allows the end user to create and fire their own pottery and even sell it in the digiverse. Yes, it is a real thing. Check it out here in the App Store.

I look forward to you reading this story because I’ve always had in my head this author wardrobe I envisioned myself one day owning. I even purchased a new sewing machine for quilting this Fall and Winter, but my heroine, in the story, is a writer. She also wears all of the cool clothes and authorly items I fancy myself one day owning.

I look forward to you coming home with me later this month to Venture, Georgia. A made-up town that feels very, very real to me. Yes, the map will be included in the front of all of the Venture, Georgia stories.

Olivia's Must-Have Item For Your Home Office

Clear Shelf Dividers

If you're like me, my bookcase is a hot mess. I had items mixed together and it was complete chaos. Well, no more. I ordered a set of these and used them for the top shelf of my bookcases to sort my journals and binders. I also have a great amount of crafting items that also needed to be divided. This keeps me from stuffing more items on the shelves; works in closets for purses too.

Get them here.
