🤔 What I do when I feel like Giving Up!
Jul 01, 2023 2:01 pm
Hey ,
There’s something I need you to know about me. I’m not motivated to do anything 100% of the time.
There are days when I feel like I can conquer the world and days when I don’t feel like getting out of bed.
Why am I telling you this? Because, like every other person out there, I am human. And this is very normal.
If you have ever had trouble sticking to something important to you, just know that it happens.
You aren’t alone. Sometimes, all we really need are reminders to get us back on track.
Well, maybe these reminders are just what you need.
Here's what I try to tell myself when I feel like giving up, which might help you too.
1. Ask, “Why did I start in the first place?”
If you had a really good reason to do what you are doing, you probably would not even be thinking about quitting.
So, why did you start? Is it for a meaningful reason or a selfish one?
Your answer will tell you a lot about what to do next.
2. Ask, “Do I just need to take a break?”
Sometimes, when we feel like quitting, it’s because we feel a bit overwhelmed or burned out. This happens.
Maybe you need to take a break from work for a while, then go back to it and see if that was what you needed.
3. Don’t expect to always be motivated.
There are days I don’t feel like showing up, and there are days I do.
On days when I don’t, I show up because I understand that consistency is far more important than motivation.
Don’t expect to always be at 100%.
4. Ask, “Is there someone I know that can help me with this?”
One of the biggest obstacles in life that stops us from getting what we want is not asking for help.
There’s probably someone out there who can lend you a helping hand.
All you have to do is ask.
5. Ask, “Would I regret giving up on this in five years?”
Fast forward into the future—let’s say five years—and imagine what your life would look like if you gave up.
Would you be happy with that decision or not?
What you should do next depends on the answer to this question.
đź“™BOOK RECOMMENDATION OF THE WEEK
Anything You Want by Derek Sivers
This book really spoke to me because it was based on the idea that starting a business should be driven by real-world needs, not the goal of just making money.
It showed that making customers happy is not just a business strategy; it is also a way to make connections that matter.
It was nice to see that business success is not tied to old ways of doing things, but can also come from being creative and having a clear vision.
Here are five important takeaways from the book.
a. Solve a real-world problem.
Sivers did not found CD Baby (his company) with the intention of starting a business. It grew out of a personal need.
This shows how important it is to come up with solutions for problems in the real world, not just for your own benefit.
b. Customer happiness is a must.
From the start, Sivers put the happiness of his customers first, even if it meant making unusual business decisions.
This strategy kept customers coming back and helped his business do well overall.
c. It is okay to break the rules.
Sivers was not afraid to question standard business practices if they did not fit with his goals or values.
This led to new ways of doing things that set CD Baby apart from other businesses.
d. Be true to your vision.
Sivers never forgot why he started CD Baby and what he wanted it to stand for, no matter how successful it got.
He turned down offers that did not fit with his vision, which shows us how important it is to stick to our values.
e. Personal fulfillment is most important.
Sivers sold CD Baby when it stopped making him happy. He put his own happiness ahead of money or what society says is success.
This emphasizes the importance of pursuing what genuinely makes you happy rather than what others think will make you happy.
