🫏 The man, his son and a donkey.

Hey ,
Let me share a story that’s probably as old as time but still packs a punch when it comes to human nature. It’s about a man, his son, and their donkey.
So, there’s this man and his son who are on their way to town with their donkey.
At first, both of them walk beside the donkey, letting it carry nothing.
As they go along, they pass a group of people who laugh and say, “What fools! Why aren’t they riding the donkey? Isn’t that what it is for?”
Hearing this, the man and his son decide to ride the donkey together. Soon, they pass another group who frowns and mutters, “How cruel! Two people riding one poor donkey. Do you want to kill it?”
Feeling guilty, the man gets off and lets his son ride alone. A little further, they pass elderly people who shake their heads and say, “Look at this lazy generation. What a lazy, entitled child, making his old father walk!”
So, the man tells his son to get off, and he rides the donkey instead. Not long after, they hear more criticism: “What a terrible father, making his little boy walk while he sits on the donkey like a king!”
Finally, in a desperate attempt to please everyone, they both carry the donkey. This sight amuses everyone they pass, who laughs at the absurdity of the scene.
Their journey then takes a tragic turn when they come across a bridge. One of them trips, causing the donkey to slip from their hands, fall into the river, and drown.
The lesson here is crystal clear: No matter what you do, you can’t please everyone. Trying to do so will only exhaust and frustrate you.
Here are some key takeaways:
- Stay True to Your Values: Shifting your actions based on every bit of criticism can lead you astray. Stay focused on your goals and values.
- Learn to Filter Feedback: Not all feedback is useful. Learn to discern constructive criticism from mere noise. Take what helps you grow and let go of the rest.
✍️ A QUOTE TO REFLECT ON:
“The secret of happiness, you see, is not found in seeking more, but in developing the capacity to enjoy less."- Socrates
In a world often driven by consumption and the constant pursuit of more, Socrates’s words encourages us to pause and appreciate the simple joys that life offers.
This shift in perspective not only brings happiness but also fosters a sense of gratitude and mindfulness that can transform our daily experiences.
🤔 A QUESTION WORTH CONSIDERING:
"Which part of my life has been shaped more by the desire to please others than by my own happiness?"
